Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Garfield Heights, Ohio. This role supports core accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with close activities, and contributing to reporting that helps guide business decisions.

The ideal candidate brings a solid accounting foundation, strong analytical ability, and hands-on experience working across general ledger, payables, receivables, and reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• Produce financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring statements are complete, accurate, and ready for review.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by preparing reconciliations, recording adjustments, and confirming transactions are posted on time.
• Support the period-end close by preparing journal entries, reviewing account activity, and resolving discrepancies before finalizing results.
• Partner with audit teams by gathering schedules, supplying requested documentation, and helping strengthen controls based on audit feedback.
• Assist with both customer invoicing and vendor payment activities to help keep receivables and payables current and organized.
• Monitor accounting practices for alignment with applicable regulations and internal policies while staying informed on updates to accounting guidance.
• Contribute to budgeting and forecasting efforts by compiling financial information, tracking results against plan, and explaining variances.
• Analyze financial data to identify patterns, investigate unusual items, and provide meaningful input to support management decisions.
• Recommend and implement improvements to accounting workflows that increase efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
• Complete special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as business needs arise.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 1 year of accounting experience in a detail-focused setting.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate financial information, identify issues, and develop practical solutions.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail when handling financial records and reporting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and related reporting tools.
• Experience using NetSuite or another large-scale ERP platform; report-building experience is a plus.
• Public accounting experience with a Big 4 or other leading firm is helpful, but not required.
