Job description
About this role
Role is hybrid and requires 3 days a week in NYC office
We are seeking a Dinnerware Designer to develop commercially compelling tabletop collections from initial concept through production. This role combines hands-on product development (approximately 40%), design (30%), and merchandising and presentation (30%).
The ideal candidate brings a strong design eye, sound judgment about how dinnerware looks and functions in everyday use, and the organization to move multiple products through sampling and revision with factory partners.
Responsibilities:
- Design - Research trends and develop original dinnerware concepts, including shapes, surface treatments, patterns, graphics, and colorways suited to the brand and its customers.
- Design - Create both 2D graphic artwork and 3D product designs, with attention to proportions, construction, and how each piece functions in everyday use.
- Design - Develop renderings, technical drawings, specifications, and production-ready artwork that clearly communicate design intent to factory partners.
- Design - Build or prepare 3D CAD files for prototyping, including files suitable for 3D printing, and evaluate physical prototypes to refine form and function.
- Design - Refine designs in response to sample reviews, customer needs, and feedback from internal teams.
- PD - Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for factory partners, communicating clearly through email, WhatsApp, and other established channels about specifications, samples, revisions, and timelines.
- PD - Maintain an accurate sample development tracker, documenting each item’s status, feedback, outstanding questions, approvals, and next steps.
- PD - Review prototypes and production samples for design accuracy, finish, proportions, functionality, and quality. Provide specific, actionable feedback to factories and follow revisions through to resolution.
- PD - Troubleshoot design and production challenges with factory partners, balancing aesthetics, manufacturability, usability, target price points, and commercial appeal
- Merchandising - Develop cohesive dinnerware and tabletop assortments, considering item mix, color, price point, and how products work together as a collection.
- Merchandising - Create and maintain PowerPoint presentations, presentation boards, and product mockups for internal line reviews, customer meetings, and sales presentations.
- Merchandising - Arrange product concepts and samples into clear, compelling presentations that communicate each collection’s design direction and commercial opportunity.
- Merchandising - Help set up and merchandise the showroom for the company’s spring and fall markets, including arranging samples, coordinating displays, and ensuring the space presents the assortment effectively to buyers.
- Merchandising - Partner with sales and leadership to incorporate feedback, refine assortments, and prepare customer-facing materials.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop/ Illustrator and 3D CAD/modeling tools.
- Experience preparing files for 3D printing and product prototyping.
- Versatility, attention to detail and strong multi-tasking skills.
