Senior Backend Engineer (Distributed Systems & HPC)

We’re partnering with a fast-growing technology company building a high-performance platform for large-scale engineering and scientific computing. They’re looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to build the systems that orchestrate compute-intensive workloads across cloud and HPC environments.

This is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of backend development, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and high-performance computing. This is an opportunity to build backend infrastructure where software directly controls and orchestrates large-scale CPU/GPU compute workloads, rather than a traditional application-development environment.

Responsibilities:

• Build scalable backend services and APIs for compute-intensive workloads.
• Develop systems for job orchestration, scheduling, data management, caching, and storage.
• Improve distributed task pipelines and reliability for long-running workloads.
• Integrate cloud infrastructure with HPC and high-performance compute environments.
• Work with Kubernetes, containers, Linux, networking, and observability.
• Optimize how CPU and GPU resources are utilized across large workloads.
• Partner closely with scientific and infrastructure engineering teams.

Required Skills:

• Strong backend development experience with Python, C++, and/or Java.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems in production.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud platform.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong Linux and systems troubleshooting skills.
• Experience designing backend services and REST/web APIs.
• Understanding of cloud compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and CI/CD.
