About this role
JOB SUMMARY
BidBuddy is a software platform that helps property managers manage requests for proposals, communicate with vendors, receive bids, and compare proposals using AI-assisted tools.
We are bringing software development in-house after working with an external development firm. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on engineer to take technical ownership of the existing platform and lead its continued development.
This role combines full-stack development, AWS infrastructure management, and practical technical leadership. You will work directly with the founder to understand customer needs, prioritize improvements, and deliver reliable features.
This is a hands-on development role—not a management-only position.
We need someone comfortable working independently across an existing codebase, investigating problems, making sound technical decisions, and owning features from planning through production.

DUTIES
▪
Lead a structured technical handoff from our current development partner, including the codebase, architecture, cloud infrastructure, deployment processes, integrations, and outstanding work.
▪
Take ownership of the existing application, improving it incrementally rather than assuming it requires a complete rewrite.
▪
Develop and maintain frontend features using React and TypeScript, and backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS Lambda.
▪
Improve workflows for property managers and vendors, including RFP creation, vendor invitations, bid submissions, document handling, proposal comparisons, and messaging.
▪
Develop and maintain APIs, data models, authentication, and role-based access controls.
▪
Maintain AWS infrastructure, including DynamoDB, S3, Cognito, and serverless services, using AWS CDK.
▪
Improve AI-assisted document and bid-analysis workflows, with attention to accuracy, source evidence, processing costs, and failure handling.
▪
Maintain automated deployments through GitHub Actions and strengthen testing, code review, and release practices.
▪
Monitor application reliability, troubleshoot production issues, and manage cloud and third-party service costs.
▪
Protect confidential customer and vendor information through appropriate permissions, secure development practices, and careful data handling.
▪
Translate business requirements into clear implementation plans, communicate tradeoffs, and provide realistic delivery estimates.
▪
Document the system so the company retains technical knowledge and can onboard additional engineers as it grows.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
▪
Substantial professional experience developing and maintaining production web applications.
▪
Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
▪
Hands-on experience building, deploying, and supporting applications on AWS, particularly serverless architectures.
▪
Experience with APIs, authentication, authorization, and database design.
▪
Experience with DynamoDB or comparable NoSQL databases.
▪
Familiarity with infrastructure as code, automated deployment pipelines, Git, and automated testing.
▪
Demonstrated ability to understand and improve an existing application developed by another team.
▪
Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and explain technical decisions clearly to a business-focused founder.
▪
A practical approach to balancing development speed, reliability, security, and cost.
▪
Willingness to write and maintain code as the primary technical owner.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
▪
Experience taking over an application from an agency, consulting firm, or previous engineering team.
▪
Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms serving different user roles.
▪
Experience integrating LLMs into production applications, including structured outputs, evidence validation, evaluation, and usage-cost management.
▪
Experience with PDF processing, document extraction, or comparison workflows.
▪
Familiarity with Material UI, TanStack Query, Hono, Zod, OpenAI, LangChain, or Ably.
▪
Experience in property management, construction, procurement, or vendor-management software.
▪
Experience establishing engineering practices for a small company and helping hire or mentor additional developers.
