About this role

Position Summary... -----------------------

What you'll do... ---------------------

Role summary:

As a Staff Software Engineer on Software Delivery Services, you will design, build, and ship the services that install and update software on hundreds of thousands of Mac and Windows computers. You will work agent-first. That means writing clear, testable specs, directing AI coding agents to implement them, and reviewing what they produce for correctness and security.

You will set technical direction across a device agent, cloud backend services, and an automated platform that rolls out application updates in stages and stops automatically when something looks wrong. You will also help the rest of the team get better at building this way.

About the team

Software Delivery Services makes sure Walmart associates have the software they need, kept current and secure, on hundreds of thousands of Mac and Windows computers. We manage the full life of desktop applications, from intake and packaging through testing, deployment, updates, and retirement.

We are building a next-generation platform that installs and updates software in minutes instead of hours, powers self-service app stores, and sets up new computers automatically. We build with AI agents writing most of our code, and engineers defining the work, setting the guardrails, and approving every change. Our stack includes Go, C#, Node.js, React, SQL, and Azure Cosmos DB.

What you’ll do

  • Build and own core services across our Go, C#, Node.js, and React codebases, backed by SQL and Azure Cosmos DB.
  • Lead how the team builds with AI agents: writing specs, breaking work into agent-sized tasks, setting up repository context and guardrails, and proving agent output through tests and review.
  • Design staged rollouts and health checks that automatically halt a release when results look unhealthy.
  • Own architecture and security design for the device agent and its backend services, including device identity, certificates, secure communication, and audit logging.
  • Review the highest-risk changes, whether written by people or agents, and coach engineers to evaluate AI-generated code critically.
  • Lead production readiness from pilot through enterprise-wide rollout, including monitoring, load testing, failure handling, and rollback.
  • Partner with Mac, Windows, security, and product teams to remove blockers.
  • Mentor engineers at every level and help them grow.

What you’ll bring

  • Hands-on experience shipping production software primarily through AI coding agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor, including spec-driven development and critical review of agent output.
  • Experience building with LLM APIs, MCP, or agent-to-agent integrations.
  • Strong production experience in at least one of Go, C#, or Node.js, and the ability to work across all three.
  • Experience building web front ends with React.
  • Experience designing data models for both relational SQL databases and document databases such as Azure Cosmos DB.
  • Deep experience designing and running cloud-based distributed services at large scale.
  • Experience building software that runs on Mac and Windows computers, such as device agents, deployment tools, or platforms like Intune or Jamf.
  • Strong security judgment, including device identity, certificates, and audit logging.
  • Experience with testable architecture and test-driven development.
  • Experience setting technical direction across multiple products or teams.
  • Clear writing for both engineers and senior leaders.

Nice to have

  • Experience with application packaging on Mac and Windows (MSI, PKG, or similar)
  • Experience with Azure services beyond Cosmos DB.
