Job Summary The Staff Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in delivering innovative technology solutions for the P&C claims industry. This role offers a unique opportunity to be entrepreneurial and innovative within a stable, reputable organization—without the risks of a startup.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and enhance software solutions that solve business challenges Contribute to the architecture, design, and planning of new features and system capabilities Collaborate closely with data scientists, data engineers, actuaries, and subject-matter experts Help integrate data science, AI/agent outputs, and model-driven insights into production application workflows Build and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure high-quality code Manage your workload responsibly with an eye toward project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables Help the team achieve sprint goals through independent work and cross-functional collaboration Participate in code reviews to uphold quality, maintainability, and best practices Support and improve deployment pipelines and release processes Assist in evaluating and implementing security, encryption, sensitive-data handling, and other platform-level technologies Architect and implement modern front-end frameworks (React/TypeScript) including Next.js, and robust backend API services (Django, REST).

Support backend workflows for asynchronous or long-running integrations where needed Design, optimize, and maintain SQL databases Document code, architectures, and features to ensure long-term maintainability Use GitHub and GitFlow confidently in a collaborative development environment Qualifications 10+ years of relevant software development experience Strong experience in software development using programming or scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL Experience with React, TypeScript, and preferably Next.js.

Experience building backend API services with Django, REST, or similar Python web frameworks Cloud development experience with Azure and/or AWS Experience with Docker or containerized application development Design, implement, and maintain scalable, efficient CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Terraform Understanding of Agile practices (e.g.

Scrum) Experience with full software development lifecycle Excellent technical design, problem solving, and debugging skills Experience with: Domain driven design Microservice architecture Event-driven architecture REST API design Writing testable code, unit tests, integration tests, etc.

Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team Proven ability to interpret and implement business and functional requirements Ability to translate clients' business needs, claims workflows, and claims expertise into actionable product requirements Understanding of the value of test automation and a desire to incorporate it in development practice Understanding of secure software development practices, especially when working with sensitive or regulated data Required Continued education and/or advanced degree(s) Experience in environments subject to HIPAA and other sensitive data Experience in software-as-a-service and/or P&C insurance industry Cloud certifications Experience with test driven development Experience in designing systems using event-driven architecture Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts (such as model explainability, agent-based integrations, or platforms like Databricks), and comfort building software that works alongside them Experience with durable background jobs, queues, workers, or asynchronous processing patterns
