Job description

About this role

Collins Engine-Generator Service | A Streamline Company

Collins Engine-Generator Service (CES-NM.com) is the electrical, standby-power, and wireless-infrastructure division of the Streamline Group. The company supports projects in cell-tower construction, commercial and data-center electrical services, and emergency standby power.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead Collins’ Finance Department. This role is accountable for accurate financial records, timely reporting, effective controls, cash oversight, project accounting, and financial insight that supports sound business decisions and company profitability.

The Controller will supervise one AR/AP Specialist and work closely with the President, the corporate Finance Director, and Operations leadership. This is a working leadership role: you will set standards, review the team’s work, resolve exceptions, and personally handle accounting and analysis that cannot be delegated.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Mountain Time

Reports to: President of Collins

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, with clear deadlines, assigned responsibilities, documented reviews, and reconciled accounts.
  • Prepare and review accurate financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash-flow reporting.
  • Provide management with working-capital, budget-versus-actual, project-profitability, and other decision-useful reports.
  • Explain significant financial changes, risks, data limitations, and recommended actions.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and ensure all material balance-sheet accounts are reconciled.
  • Record and review accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, liabilities, equity, intercompany activity, payroll entries, and other accounting transactions.

Budgeting, Cash, and Profitability

  • Lead the annual budget and periodic forecasts, and monitor results against approved plans.
  • Prepare and maintain a rolling 13-week cash forecast showing expected collections, obligations, and funding needs.
  • Oversee project accounting and job-cost reporting, including revenue, committed and accrued costs, margins, change orders, unbilled activity, and project financial risks.
  • Partner with Operations to investigate variances and improve job-cost accuracy.
  • Identify cash, margin, overhead, and spending trends early enough for management to act.

Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll Accounting

  • Oversee billing controls, customer collections, cash application, receivables aging, and bad-debt assessments.
  • Ensure invoices are accurate, properly supported, and aligned with customer contracts, purchase orders, approved work, and submission requirements.
  • Oversee vendor-payment controls, payment calendars, approval requirements, and reconciliation of payables and payment activity.
  • Review corporate-card reconciliations and ensure transactions are supported, approved, coded, and resolved on time.
  • Oversee payroll accounting, funding reviews, and payroll-to-ledger and liability reconciliations.
  • Ensure subcontractor payouts are authorized, properly documented, coded to the correct projects, and reconciled.
  • Review the payment register regularly and escalate unsupported, unusual, disputed, or potentially fraudulent transactions.

Systems, Compliance, and Controls

  • Serve as Finance’s business owner and data steward for Odoo, Collins’ accounting and operational system of record.
  • Govern accounting workflows, chart of accounts, journals, analytic structures, finance master data, and close controls in Odoo.
  • Coordinate approved system changes with the Odoo technical owner and document requirements, defects, and process updates.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar for assigned financial, tax, payroll-accounting, lender, insurance, corporate, registration, and licensing obligations.
  • Coordinate filings and reporting with internal owners and qualified outside advisers.
  • Organize support for audits, reviews, insurance renewals, due diligence, and management requests.
  • Maintain clear accounting policies, procedures, approval evidence, and audit trails.
  • Protect confidential financial, employee, customer, vendor, banking, tax, and credential information.

Team Leadership and Business Partnership

  • Supervise and review the work of one AR/AP Specialist, with clear procedures for routine work and prompt escalation of exceptions.
  • Set finance priorities, close and reporting calendars, reconciliation standards, and approval processes.
  • Work with the President, corporate Finance Director, HR, Operations, project managers, and outside advisers.
  • Return incomplete, unsupported, duplicated, or incorrectly coded transactions for correction.
  • Escalate material errors, cash risks, suspected fraud, control breakdowns, and unresolved accounting or compliance issues promptly.

What We Are Looking For

  • A hands-on finance leader who can build structure while also doing the detailed accounting work.
  • Strong accounting judgment and a consistent approach to documentation, controls, and follow-through.
  • The ability to explain financial information clearly to executives and operational leaders.
  • Confidence working across project-based operations and investigating differences between budgets, costs, and results.
  • Discretion when handling confidential financial and employee information.
  • A practical, collaborative approach and the ability to work independently while staying responsive to the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical accounting experience.
  • Progressive accounting experience sufficient to independently lead close, reconciliations, financial reporting, controls, budgeting, and cash oversight.
  • Experience supervising or reviewing accounts receivable and accounts payable work.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, balance-sheet reconciliations, internal controls, and financial-statement preparation.
  • Experience with project accounting, job costing, budget-versus-actual analysis, and profitability reporting.
