Job description

About this role

Imagine your next harness, board or power system going to sea in a vessel with no crew.

Our client is a fast-growing defense technology company that is moving autonomous vessels from prototype to volume production. They’re building out their electrical engineering team and hiring across several disciplines.

Do you have experience taking electrical hardware from design into production in automotive, robotics, aerospace, medical devices or defense? Would you consider a move to a groundbreaking player in the defense space?

Open areas

  • PCB Design:

board design and layout for power, compute and sensor electronics, designed for manufacture and test.

  • Schematic & Systems Design:

power distribution architectures, one-line diagrams, ladder schematics and network drawings.

  • Wire Harness:

harness design, routing and documentation that the production line can build consistently.

  • Test Engineering:

test strategy, fixtures and procedures from design validation through end-of-line production test.

  • Systems Integration:

bringing power, compute, sensing and comms together on the vessel, from bench to dockside to at-sea trials.

You don’t need to have worked on boats. Engineers from these industries tend to fit well:

  • Automotive / EV / off-highway:

you’ve worked on 12/24/48V power distribution, CAN networks and harnesses built to volume with tier suppliers.

  • Robotics & autonomous systems:

you’ve taken compute, sensors and comms from prototype into fleet-scale builds.

  • Medical devices:

you’ve been through design transfer, with documentation, traceability and production test that hold up to scrutiny.

  • Aerospace & defense:

you’ve built hardware that has to pass qualification on every unit, not just once.

What they’re looking for

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in at least one of the areas above, on hardware that went into production.
  • Experience with tools relevant to your area, e.g. Altium, Cadence, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken or Capital.
  • Familiarity with low-voltage AC/DC power, Ethernet, CAN or RS485, and EMI/EMC.
  • Exposure to environmental standards such as MIL-STD-810/461, ISO 16750 or IEC 60068, or the ability to get up to speed quickly.
  • Comfortable working across the lab, the production floor and the field.

What’s on offer

  • The chance to shape how a new class of defense platform is built, not just designed.
  • Competitive salary plus performance bonus and equity options.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Medical premiums 100% paid for employees and 80% for dependents (dental and vision the same on the basic plan).
  • Generous PTO, paid parental leave, and life and disability cover.
