Senior Litigation Associate Attorney

About the Role

Shulman & Hill, PLLC is a New York plaintiff's personal injury firm with offices across multiple boroughs. We represent people injured in motor vehicle accidents, on unsafe premises, on construction sites, and in catastrophic and wrongful death matters.

We are hiring a Litigation Associate with 5 to 7 years of experience to run their own caseload from our Manhattan office. You will handle motor vehicle, premises liability, and Labor Law construction cases from suit up to trial, supervise the paralegals supporting your files, and report directly to a partner.

This is a full-time, in-office role for an attorney ready to own outcomes: valuing cases, setting strategy, negotiating settlements, and moving every file on your docket toward resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Caseload ownership

• Manage your own docket of motor vehicle, premises liability, and Labor Law §240(1), §241(6), and §200 matters
• Set case strategy and comply with timelines for every file, from pleadings through resolution
• Keep the partner informed on case value, key developments, and settlement posture

Litigation

• Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
• Appear at preliminary, compliance, and pre-trial conferences and argue motions
• Draft and oppose summary judgment motions, including on Labor Law liability and the serious injury threshold under Insurance Law §5102(d)
• Retain and work with medical, engineering, and construction site safety experts

Trial readiness

• Keep files trial ready, including exhibits, witness outlines, and expert coordination
• Support trial counsel on matters that proceed to trial

Settlement

• Evaluate case value and develop a resolution strategy for each file
• Prepare settlement demands and negotiate directly with insurance carriers and defense counsel
• Settle cases within firm-approved authority and recommend settlements above it to the partner
• Represent clients at mediations and settlement conferences
• Coordinate lien resolution and work with the closing department to finalize settlements

Supervision

• Supervise and direct the paralegals assigned to your caseload
• Delegate drafting, records collection, and scheduling, and review work product for quality
• Hold regular file reviews to keep every case moving

Qualifications

Required

• J.D. and admission to the New York State Bar, in good standing
• 5 to 7 years of New York personal injury litigation experience
• Experience independently managing a litigation caseload
• A proven record of negotiating and closing bodily injury settlements
• Extensive deposition experience and regular appearances in New York State Supreme Court
• Strong working knowledge of the CPLR, New York Labor Law, motor vehicle, and premises liability law

Preferred

• Plaintiff-side experience
• Experience supervising paralegals or case managers
• Summary judgment practice on Labor Law §240(1) and §241(6) claims
• Familiarity with Litify or another Salesforce-based case management system
• Bilingual in Spanish or another language spoken by our clients

Pay: $150,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
