About this role

Project Accountant

======================

This position is based out of our Charlotte, NC regional office.

As a Project Accountant, you keep the financial side of construction moving. You’ll prepare owner invoices, process subcontractor pay applications and vendor invoices, and make sure the right documentation is in place before a payment goes out.

You’ll work side by side with Project Managers and Group Managers, supporting both our corporate and field operations. Your accuracy keeps our trade partners paid, protects our projects, and helps us deliver for our clients and communities The Samet Way.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare owner invoices for construction projects, coordinating with Project Managers and Group Managers to review all draft invoices and supporting documentation.
  • Process subcontractor pay applications and other vendor invoices, including verification, coding, routing to approvers, and preparing AP payments.
  • Verify proper risk management procedures, including lien waivers and certificates of insurance.
  • Obtain project close-out documentation and release retainage once proper documentation is received.
  • Cross-train on certificates of insurance, document imaging, expense reports, and reconciling and entering credit card payments.
  • Support special projects as needed.

What You Bring

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (required); Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in A/P data entry.
  • Two years of construction-related accounting experience (preferred), ideally with a general contractor.
  • Excellent computer and software skills, with the ability to learn, adapt to, and implement new systems.
  • Proficiency in Excel (required).
  • Experience with Timberline (Sage 300) software (a plus).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team-player mindset with a customer-service approach to co-workers and subcontractors.
  • A passion for collaborative improvement and for implementing effective processes, procedures, and standards.
