Job description
About this role
We are seeking a hands-on Director of Information Technology. This role turns fast-moving IT team into a disciplined, well-staffed operation — leading incident response, building routine operational rigor, and securing a Microsoft Azure environment against modern AI-driven threats through Zero Trust architecture and strong day-to-day upkeep.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years in IT operations or infrastructure, including 3+ years leading people, major incidents, or service delivery in multi-site or operationally intensive environments.
- Strong hands-on networking: routing and switching, VLANs and segmentation, VPN and SD-WAN, warehouse wireless, and firewall policy. Cisco, Meraki, and Palo Alto strongly preferred.
- Current, hands-on AI and automation skills (Microsoft 365 Copilot, Power Automate or Copilot Studio, PowerShell or Python), plus a clear grasp of AI risk: data oversharing, sensitivity labels and DLP, and acceptable use. Show us something you've built.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Windows Server, identity, and security operations.
- A track record of building incident, change, request, asset, and continuity processes, and of managing MSPs and vendors.
- Clear communication with executives and frontline teams alike.
- Availability for after-hours maintenance, emergency response, and regular inter-island travel.
What You'll Do
- Own IT operations and the operating calendar: patching, vulnerability remediation, access reviews, recovery testing, lifecycle planning, and renewals.
- Own the network across all sites: SD-WAN, switching, wireless, firewalls, inter-island connectivity, warehouse Wi-Fi, and carriers.
- Automate routine work such as onboarding, patching, reporting, and ticket triage, and roll out AI tools like Microsoft 365 Copilot with sound data governance.
- Act as incident commander for major disruptions, keep leadership and teams informed, and lead post-incident reviews.
- Run practical change management and documentation so no production system depends on one person.
- Own resilience: recovery objectives, restoration and failover testing, and business-continuity tabletop exercises.
- Develop the Help Desk Specialist, and hold MSP and vendors to clear standards on service quality, risk, and renewals.
Who Thrives Here
- You've run a real outage end to end, and you can tell us what you changed afterward.
- You stay calm under pressure and know when to roll back instead of pushing forward.
- You measure success by whether the trucks loaded on time, not by tickets closed, and you spend time on the warehouse floor.
- You hold vendors accountable with SLAs and data, without burning the relationship.
- You don't do the same task three times by hand, and you can separate real AI value from hype.
- You coach people, write the runbook, and share credit.
Preferred
- Distribution, logistics, cold chain, or 24/7 operations experience, including handheld scanners, MDM, WMS/ERP, and freezer Wi-Fi.
- AI in operations: AI-assisted service desk, AIOps, forecasting, or route optimization.
- Microsoft Purview or Defender, and disaster planning for hurricanes and sites with no on-site IT.
- CCNA/CCNP, Meraki CMNA, PCNSA/PCNSE, ITIL, Security+, or Microsoft certifications.
Location
Honolulu-based, full-time on-site, with travel to neighbor islands and occasionally to Long Beach.
