POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a Sr. Product Manager – Controls to own the product strategy, requirements, roadmap, and lifecycle management of Qcells controls, communications, and data acquisition solutions for energy storage and PV + storage applications.
The role will define product requirements for BESS controllers, site and plant controllers, energy management interfaces, data acquisition systems, gateways, communications, remote monitoring, and utility/grid integration. The Sr.
Product Manager will translate customer, market, regulatory, and project requirements into scalable standard products while supporting configurable solutions required to address specific project and market needs.
This position will work closely with Qcells controls and software engineering, system engineering, applications engineering, sales, project execution, service, and external customers and partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own product strategy, roadmap, requirements, prioritization, and lifecycle management for Qcells controls, communications, and data acquisition products.
- Define detailed product features and functional requirements for BESS controllers, site/plant controllers, DAS, gateways, HMI, remote monitoring, and communication interfaces.
- Translate requirements from customers, utilities, developers, IPPs and EPCs into scalable product capabilities.
- Define requirements for integration with PCS, BESS, PV inverters, meters, protection equipment, utility systems, SCADA and third-party EMS platforms.
- Define communication and interoperability requirements including Modbus, DNP3, IEEE 2030.5, SunSpec and other applicable industry protocols.
- Lead product lifecycle from concept and business case through requirements, development, validation, launch, commercialization, and lifecycle support.
- Own product backlog and prioritization in collaboration with controls and software engineering teams, incorporating an MVP approach where appropriate to accelerate time to market.
- Define product validation, interoperability, cybersecurity, compliance, and certification requirements.
- Lead build-versus-buy assessments for controls, communications, software, and third-party platform capabilities.
- Maintain awareness of applicable requirements including IEEE 1547/1547.1, UL 1741, NERC requirements, utility interconnection requirements, and cybersecurity standards, as applicable to the product and market segment.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure product requirements, decisions, issues, and resolutions are effectively documented.
- Support product commercialization through product documentation, sales enablement, technical positioning, and internal training.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline; Master's degree preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in power systems, renewable energy, energy storage, controls, SCADA, communications, applications engineering, product development, or related fields.
- 5+ years of product management, technical product management, project management, or product development experience involving controls, software, SCADA, data acquisition, or communications products.
- Experience working with utilities, developers, EPCs, IPPs, and system integrators in the U.S. market.
- Field or project experience deploying and integrating solar, storage, microgrid, or renewable plant control and data acquisition systems.
- Strong understanding of control architectures, network communications, SCADA, industrial communication protocols, and system integration.
- Familiarity with grid interconnection requirements, cybersecurity, and applicable standards for distributed and utility-scale energy resources.
- Familiarity with project lifecycle, commercial requirements, and contract structures for solar, storage, or renewable energy projects.
COMPENSATION
In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the anticipated annual base salary for this position is:
- Zone 1 (Bay Area, NYC): $184,900 – $226,100
- Zone 2 (CA, NJ, NY): $169,500 – $207,200
- Zone 3 (All others): $154,100 – $188,400
The applicable salary range is based on the employee’s primary work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other business-related factors.
