Job description

About this role

Oscilla Power, Inc. (OPI) is developing advanced wave‑energy systems that support critical U.S. defense, maritime security, ocean intelligence and offshore power applications. We are seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer to join our growing team and take a leading role in designing and integrating the electrical and control systems behind these mission‑driven platforms.

Our systems convert ocean motion into reliable electrical power for remote, autonomous, and persistent maritime operations. This role is an opportunity to help deliver a strategically important capability, working on hardware that will be deployed in demanding real‑world environments.

As an Electrical Systems Engineer at OPI, you will design, model, prototype, and refine the electrical subsystems that enable our wave‑energy devices to operate. You will collaborate closely with mechanical, controls, and hydrodynamics personnel, contribute to system architecture, and own major subsystems from concept through field testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of electrical and electronic subsystems for wave‑energy platforms supporting defense and maritime security missions.
  • Create and maintain one‑line and three‑line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, logic diagrams, and other EI&C documentation.
  • Define electrical component and subsystem specifications, functional requirements, and interface documentation.
  • Guide configuration and programming of PLCs, VFDs, generators, sensors, and motion‑control hardware; coordinate work across internal engineers and external contractors.
  • Serve as an internal technical authority for PLCs, HMIs, power distribution, inverters, generators, and electrical‑mechanical integration.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of prototype and field‑deployed systems.
  • Work across engineering disciplines to solve complex technical problems and optimize system performance for mission‑critical environments.

Required Qualifications

  • US citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (or related field).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in industrial automation, power systems, motion control, or related domains.
  • Strong experience creating and interpreting EI&C documentation.
  • Hands‑on expertise with PLCs, VFDs, and motion‑control systems
  • Proficiency in electrical system diagramming and modeling.
  • Experience with MATLAB Simulink and/or Simscape for power and grid‑interaction modeling.
  • Knowledge of NEC, UL, and other relevant electrical standards.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Candidates who meet most but not all requirements are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $120,000–$135,000 per year
  • Stock options
  • 401(k) with matching
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Relocation assistance for out‑of‑state applicants

This is a full‑time, on‑site position in Seattle, WA. You’ll join a collaborative and highly technical engineering team developing wave‑energy technology for novel applications related to defense, national security and offshore power.
