Our client is hiring a
Senior Backend Software Engineer
for a fast-growing AI company building next-generation AI-powered products. This is an opportunity to work on complex backend systems and help shape highly technical products in a fast-moving environment.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build scalable backend systems, including distributed systems, data processing, information retrieval, and asynchronous workflows.
- Develop infrastructure for agentic workflows and AI-powered applications.
- Build reliable APIs and backend services using
TypeScript and AWS
.
- Work with technologies such as S3, Lambda, RDS, SQS, ECS, FastAPI, Docker, and CI/CD.
- Make architectural decisions around scalability, reliability, performance, and observability.
- Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver new product capabilities.
- Write high-quality, maintainable code and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
- Take ownership of projects and operate effectively in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Help define technical direction and mentor or guide other engineers when appropriate.
What They are Looking For
- 5–10 years
of professional backend software engineering experience.
- Strong industry experience with
TypeScript and AWS
.
- Proven experience designing and building
scalable backend systems
.
- At least
12 months of professional experience working with agentic systems, LLMs, or generative AI
.
- Experience working in an early-stage or high-growth technology company.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, algorithms, data structures, and system design.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership, and make sound technical decisions.
- A formal degree in a relevant field or equivalent qualifying academic background.
Nice to Have
- Experience serving as a technical lead or helping establish engineering standards.
- Experience with AI infrastructure, agentic workflows, or large-scale data processing.
- Experience working on highly distributed or real-time systems.
Work Location
This role is on-site five days per week in San Francisco, CA . Candidates must be able to work from the San Francisco office on a full-time basis.
