About this role

About Mehraban

Mehraban is a third-generation Los Angeles rug company specializing in luxury handmade rugs for leading interior designers, architects, hospitality projects, and private residences.

Since 1945, we have combined generations of rug knowledge and craftsmanship with a contemporary approach to design. Our collections include one-of-a-kind, contemporary, antique, and fully custom rugs produced by skilled weaving partners around the world.

We are looking for a talented, highly organized Textile Designer & Custom Rug Production Coordinator to join our Los Angeles team.

The Role

This is a hybrid creative, technical, and production-focused position.

The ideal candidate has a strong eye for design, color, pattern, fashion, and interiors, while also being extremely detail-oriented and comfortable managing the technical and organizational side of custom rug production.

You will work closely with our sales and design teams, clients, interior designers, and international weaving mills to develop custom rugs from initial concept through production.

You will also contribute to Mehraban's creative development by researching emerging trends, colors, materials, fashion, art, and interiors and helping develop new rug concepts and collections.

Custom Rug

Design & Artwork

  • Create professional tear sheets and presentations for custom rug projects.
  • Resize, rescale, repeat, crop, and adapt existing artwork to different rug dimensions and shapes.
  • Engineer pattern repeats while maintaining the integrity and proportion of the original design.
  • Develop custom colorways and recolor existing designs.
  • Create rug renderings using Galaincha or similar textile/rug visualization software.
  • Prepare Illustrator templates showing artwork, dimensions, colors, materials, and client/project information.
  • Occasionally develop original rug designs and concepts for custom projects and Mehraban collections.
  • Assist our sales team, clients, and interior designers with custom rug development.

Creative Research & Product Development

An important part of this position is bringing a strong creative point of view to the company.

  • Research trends across fashion, interiors, art, architecture, textiles, color, and materials.
  • Identify emerging colors, patterns, textures, and design directions relevant to the luxury interiors market.
  • Develop mood boards, color stories, pattern ideas, and new rug concepts.
  • Explore archival designs and reinterpret them through new colors, scales, constructions, and materials.
  • Collaborate with the Mehraban team on new collections and product development.
  • Help maintain a fresh and sophisticated visual direction while respecting Mehraban's design identity.

Rug Production & Mill Coordination

  • Translate approved artwork into accurate, mill-ready production documents.
  • Prepare order documents for custom, stock, and sample rugs.
  • Specify dimensions, design scale, colors, fibers, construction, pile height, and other production details.
  • Initiate orders with our weaving mills and communicate specifications clearly.
  • Maintain regular email correspondence with mills regarding new orders, samples, revisions, production status, and technical questions.
  • Follow up on active production and help resolve design or specification issues.
  • Maintain accurate internal order records, digital files, and production archives.
  • Follow established naming, filing, and ordering procedures.

Quality Control

  • Review incoming samples, strike-offs, and finished rugs.
  • Compare finished pieces against approved artwork, colors, dimensions, and construction specifications.
  • Identify discrepancies in color, scale, material, construction, or workmanship.
  • Develop an increasingly sophisticated understanding of fibers, weaving techniques, rug construction, pile, texture, and finishing.

Sample Library & Organization

Maintaining our physical and digital design resources is an important responsibility of this position.

  • Maintain and organize the showroom's rug and textile sample library.
  • Properly label, catalog, archive, and track samples and strike-offs.
  • Keep samples accessible and organized for the sales and design teams.
  • Maintain corresponding digital artwork, specifications, and production records.
  • Periodically review and reorganize samples as collections and vendors evolve.

Additional Creative

Support

As needed, assist with:

  • Catalogs and collection presentations.
  • Sales presentations and PDF materials.
  • Graphic and print materials.
  • Website product assets and coordination.
  • Coordination of imagery and assets for marketing, social media, SEO/AEO, and other digital initiatives.
  • Communication with the warehouse and receiving team regarding incoming rugs and product information.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Strong understanding of vector and raster artwork, pattern repeats, file formats, image resolution, pixel dimensions, and production-ready artwork.
  • Excellent eye for color, scale, proportion, pattern, texture, and composition.
  • Ability to distinguish subtle differences in color, including warm and cool undertones.
  • Strong fashion and design sensibility with an awareness of contemporary interiors, art, textiles, and luxury design.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and production deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong written communication skills and professional email correspondence.
  • Ability to maintain organized physical and digital filing systems.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn about handmade rugs, fibers, weaving techniques, and construction.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • Textile design
  • Surface or pattern design
  • Rug or carpet design
  • Fashion textiles
  • Interior design
  • Luxury home furnishings
  • Textile manufacturing or production
  • CAD or textile rendering software

Experience with Galaincha is a plus but is not required. We are willing to train the right candidate.

Familiarity with Shopify, Google Workspace, Klaviyo, Instagram/Meta, YouTube, or similar platforms is also helpful.

Who We Are

Looking For

We are looking for someone who combines creativity with discipline.

You may have the eye of a designer, but you should also enjoy the precision required to turn a creative idea into a beautifully executed handmade product.

You should be curious about fashion, interiors, art, color, and materials, but equally comfortable organizing hundreds of samples, checking production specifications, communicating with mills, and making sure details are correct.

This position is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys seeing a product evolve from inspiration → artwork → sample → production → finished rug.

Portfolio Requirement

Please submit a portfolio with your application.

We are particularly interested in seeing examples demonstrating:

  • Textile or surface-pattern design
  • Pattern repeats
  • Color development and recoloring
  • Illustrator/vector artwork
  • Textile CAD work
  • Technical design development
  • Mood boards or concept development
  • Finished products developed from original artwork

Experience specifically designing rugs is not required if you have strong textile, surface-pattern, fashion, or related design experience and an interest in learning the rug industry.

Schedule

Full-time, on-site at our Los Angeles showroom/studio.

This is primarily an in-person position because the role involves working directly with physical rug samples, color references, materials, incoming production, and our sales and design teams.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Work Location: In person
