About this role
MATALCO Kentucky – With five US-based plants and one Canadian Plant Matalco is North America’s largest independent aluminum billet and slab provider, using recycled aluminum and state-of-the art technology in the manufacture of our products. At Matalco Kentucky, as our business expands, we have an opportunity to join our Franklin KY facility in a newly added role - Plant Accountant.
In this role you will support the Plant Controller and Franklin management team with primary focus on inventory flows, manufacturing costing, and the financial administration of our Franklin Scrap Hub.
This role provides hands-on capacity and takes day-to-day leadership for defined processes, including inventory reconciliations, Scrap Hub invoicing, the finance interface with Triple M Metal, maintenance of Franklin costing files, and analysis supporting other operational activities. This role may also provide management accounting support to our sister plant in Shelbyville, KY.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory Flows & Reconciliations (30%) – Lead day-to-day finance process for inventory moving into, through and out of Franklin, with particular focus on third-party inventory associated with Scrap Hub. Maintain reconciliations between physical receipts, weights, inventory movements, processed material, residuals, and outbound shipments. Monitor segregation of Matalco and third-party inventory, investigate differences with Operations and TMM, and escalate material discrepancies or control concerns to the Plant Controller. Support practical process documentation and continuous improvement of inventory controls.
- Scrap Hub Invoicing & Triple M Metal Interface (25%) – Lead the supporting calculations and invoicing process for the Triple M Metal processing activity within the established review and control framework. Reconcile billable activity to pounds handled, material category, cutting activity and other applicable commercial charges. Act as the primary day-to-day finance contact with Triple M Metal for inventory reconciliations, supporting information, discrepancies, and billing matters. Maintain visibility over the cost and contribution of the activity and support resolution of billing questions.
- Franklin Costing (20%) – Maintain and lead preparation of the Franklin plant costing files and supporting analysis. Develop a strong understanding of conversion costs, yields, recoveries, labor, energy, and other manufacturing cost drivers. Work with Operations and the Plant Controller to improve the accuracy, consistency, and usefulness of costing information. Support month-end analysis of manufacturing costs and operating variances and identify material trends, issues, and opportunities requiring management attention.
- Operational Finance Support (15%) – Support costing, inventory-flow, and performance analysis. Monitor actual operating performance against assumptions and analyze the financial impact of changes in throughput, recovery, scrap mix, and operating costs. Provide timely analysis to the Plant Controller and Operations and support the financial assessment of operating changes and improvement initiatives.
- Management Accounting Support – Kentucky (10%) – Support the Plant Controller with costing, budgeting, forecasting, capital analysis and operational improvement initiatives across Franklin and Shelbyville as required. Work directly with Operations to understand cost and performance drivers, identify issues, and quantify opportunities. Provide practical financial analysis to support operating decisions while keeping the Plant Controller informed of material matters.
Role Boundaries & Success Profile – This role is intended to complement, not duplicate, the existing Plant Controller structure. The Plant Controller retains ultimate accountability for financial reporting, internal controls, controllership, and site financial performance.
Success in the role will be demonstrated by reliable inventory reconciliations, accurate and timely Scrap Hub invoicing, improved Franklin costing visibility, and useful operational analysis for Kentucky management.
