About this role

🚀 Full Stack Software Engineer – Data & AI Systems

📍

New York City – Hybrid

💰

$200,000–$280,000 + Equity

We’re working with an early-stage AI company in NYC building software used in real-world, high-stakes environments.

The founders have done this before — building a business from

0→1, scaling it successfully and taking it through a ~$100m exit

. Now they’re building again and adding another engineer to the initial team.

This hire is particularly focused on the

data and systems side of the platform

.

You don’t need to be a traditional Data Engineer. They’re looking for a strong software engineer who enjoys working across backend systems, data processing and modern AI — someone who can think through how data is ingested, processed, stored and ultimately used by LLM and agent-driven applications.

🛠 What you’ll be doing

  • Build backend services and data-intensive systems end-to-end
  • Design scalable ingestion and processing workflows
  • Work with event-driven and distributed architectures
  • Build the systems that feed

LLMs, agents and AI workflows

  • Make decisions around storage, retrieval, reliability and performance
  • Work directly with founders and users to understand real problems
  • Turn loosely defined requirements into working production software
  • Use modern AI development tools to build, test and iterate quickly

🧠 What they’re looking for

  • Strong hands-on software engineering experience
  • Python

and modern backend development

  • Experience building systems that process significant amounts of data
  • Strong system design and architecture skills
  • Experience with technologies such as

Kafka, Spark, Airflow, Databricks or similar

  • Experience building with

LLMs, RAG, agents or agentic workflows

  • Comfortable with tools such as

Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar

  • Able to work independently and make good technical decisions without everything being defined upfront

🤖 Experience in a startup, founding team or

0→1 environment

would be useful, but it isn’t essential.

They’re much more interested in finding a strong engineer who can

build software, reason deeply about data and systems, and apply modern AI in production.

If this sounds interesting, apply to hear more.
