About this role
We’re building Ascent, a native aviation mapping app, and looking for a hands-on engineer to own the iOS experience from architecture through release. This is a founding-level role with meaningful product and technical responsibility.
What you’ll own
- Native Swift/SwiftUI experiences and mapping integrations
- Offline downloads, persistence and synchronization that handle interrupted connectivity
- Crash, memory and rendering-performance improvements measured on real devices
- Testing, releases and follow-through with product and backend teammates
What we’re looking for
- Shipped iOS products and clear examples of what you personally owned
- Strong Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit interoperability, concurrency and networking skills
- Sound judgment around data integrity, recovery and app lifecycle behavior
- Ability to turn an ambiguous problem into a focused plan and deliver independently
Mapbox/MapLibre, SQLite/GRDB, background transfers and geospatial experience are especially relevant. Aviation and Metal experience are useful extras, not prerequisites.
Full-time or contract. Palo Alto on-site preferred; exceptional fully remote candidates considered. No hybrid arrangement.
Full-time base salary: $150,000–$180,000, depending on experience and scope. Equity: 1–3%, subject to final grant terms. Contract rates and scope negotiated separately.
Apply with your résumé or profile and one example of an iOS product or feature you shipped: what you owned, the hardest tradeoff and the result. App Store links, technical writing and open-source work are welcome; public code isn’t required.
