About this role

Role Summary

This position designs, builds, and enhances high-quality Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android technologies. The role leads the technical development of complex mobile features from initial design through post-release monitoring and collaborates with product, design, backend, quality, and mobile engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and user-focused experiences.

This position requires on-site work 2 to 3 days per week in one of the following locations: San Antonio, Texas; Aurora, Colorado; Falls Church, Virginia; or Tacoma, Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and enhance Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks.
  • Lead the technical development of complex Android features from discovery and design through implementation and post-release monitoring.
  • Collaborate with product, design, backend, quality, and mobile engineering teams to deliver reliable and user-focused mobile experiences.
  • Evolve Android application architecture using best practices for modularization, networking, persistence, and dependency management.
  • Develop technical designs that clearly identify tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, and migration strategies.
  • Build accessible, responsive user interfaces in collaboration with product design and research teams.
  • Expand automated testing across unit, integration, UI, and end-to-end testing layers.
  • Improve application observability, performance, crash health, security, privacy, and release quality.
  • Partner with backend and platform teams on API contracts, offline functionality, authentication, experimentation, and analytics.
  • Collaborate with iOS engineers to support consistent product experiences while maintaining platform-specific best practices.
  • Review code contributions, mentor engineering team members, and promote effective technical practices.
  • Participate in planning, estimation, incident management, and continuous improvement activities for mobile development.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, 9+ years with a high school diploma, or an equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and practical experience.
  • Advanced Kotlin skills and strong knowledge of Android SDK fundamentals, Jetpack libraries, coroutines, and reactive state management.
  • Production experience with Jetpack Compose, including state management, navigation, performance optimization, testing, and interoperability with Views.
  • Experience making application architecture decisions and maintaining mature codebases.
  • Experience with REST or GraphQL APIs, local persistence, background processing, authentication, analytics, and push notifications.
  • Strong debugging and testing skills using crash reports, performance metrics, and product telemetry.
  • Experience managing application releases through Google Play, including staged rollouts and production issue resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience mentoring team members and contributing to engineering best practices.
  • This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Experience supporting iOS applications, including scoped development using Swift, SwiftUI, or UIKit, as well as familiarity with Xcode, application lifecycle, navigation, and testing.
  • Ability to evaluate Android and iOS implementation approaches while maintaining appropriate platform-specific architecture and design practices.

Publishing Pay Range:

$50.00 – $55.00 hourly

This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
