About this role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Infrastructure VMWare Design Engineer to design, implement, and support enterprise‑grade virtualization and software‑defined data center (SDDC) technologies. This role serves as the subject matter expert for VMWare vSphere, VMWare NSX, and VMWare Avi load‑balancing platforms—ensuring availability, performance, security, and scalability across mission‑critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities of VMware Engineer VMWare vSphere Engineering Architect, deploy, and maintain vSphere clusters supporting enterprise workloads. Optimize performance, capacity, resource allocation, and HA/DRS configurations. Implement lifecycle management, patching, compliance, and hypervisor‑level security.
VMWare NSX (NSX‑T) Network Virtualization Design and manage micro‑segmentation, distributed firewalling, and logical switching/routing. Implement NSX edge services, overlay networking, and traffic‑routing policies. Ensure NSX architectures align with security, segmentation, and performance requirements.
VMWare Avi Load Balancing (NSX Advanced Load Balancer) Deploy and configure Avi Service Engines and virtual services. Manage load‑balancing configurations, WAF policies, advanced traffic steering, and ADC functions. Integrate Avi with NSX, vSphere, and application delivery workflows.
Automation & Infrastructure Provisioning Automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle operations using PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tooling. Build repeatable automation for resource deployment, cluster expansion, network configuration, and system hardening. Systems Support & Troubleshooting Provide Tier 3 support for complex virtualization, network virtualization, and load‑balancing issues.
Perform root‑cause analysis and drive long‑term corrective improvements. Collaborate with security, networking, and application teams to resolve cross‑functional issues.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering with a strong focus on VMWare technologies.
- Hands‑on experience with VMWare NSX‑T architecture, distributed firewalls, and NSX edge services.
- Practical experience configuring VMWare Avi Service Engines, virtual services, and traffic rules.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing (BGP), VLANs, overlay networks (VXLAN/GENEVE), and network security.
- Proficiency with automation tools such as PowerCLI, Ansible, or Terraform.
Preferred certifications
VCP‑NV, VCIX, or equivalent advanced VMWare certifications. Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and manage multiple concurrent projects. Work Model This role follows a hybrid work model, with most responsibilities able to be completed remotely. On‑site presence is typically required only a few times per month.
