About this role
ECS ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS
JOB DESCRIPTION
Systems Engineer
About ECS
ECS Environmental Solutions designs and manufactures custom air pollution control and odor control systems for industrial and municipal clients across North America. Our systems — wet scrubbers, carbon adsorbers, biofilters, FRP ductwork, and fans — are engineered and built in-house at our Belton, Texas facility. Every project is custom.
No two are the same.
The Role
The Systems Engineer owns a project from Purchase Order (PO) through customer submittal approval, then hands manufacturing coordination and logistics to a Project Manager while staying on as the project's technical subject matter expert through commissioning and startup. This is a combined engineering and project management role. You are the technical expert and the customer's primary point of contact through approval.
You produce the submittal package, manage the customer approval cycle, source buyout components, build the project's bill of materials and routing, and either perform or support system startup and end-user training.
What You'll Do
- Interpret contract documents, specifications, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams to define complete project scope, and flag gaps or performance risks
- Produce complete engineering submittal packages: drawings, specs, P&IDs, data sheets, and vendor documentation
- Own the customer relationship from PO through approved submittal — redlines, technical questions, change orders, schedule communication
- Coordinate drawing production with our Drafting team
- Source buyout components — solicit vendor quotes and assess performance, cost, and lead time
- Develop project bills of material and routing (BOMR)
- Perform cost reviews against budget
- Manage your project schedules and flag risks before they become problems
- Respond to technical abnormals generated by Manufacturing or Field Service related to your projects
- Perform or assist with commissioning and end-user training at startup as needed
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field — or equivalent demonstrated technical experience in an ETO manufacturing environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and equipment specifications
- Strong written and verbal communication — able to correspond professionally with engineers, contractors, and municipal clients
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to learn Smartsheet, SolidWorks PDM, and ECS business systems
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously
- Proactive problem-solver with a data-driven approach to decision-making and risk identification
- Project Management experience with demonstrated ability to manage schedule, scope, and customer expectations simultaneously
Strongly Preferred
- Experience in air pollution control, odor control, water/wastewater treatment, or industrial process equipment
- Familiarity with wet scrubbers, carbon adsorbers, biofilters, fans, or FRP fabrication and ductwork systems
- Prior experience preparing engineering submittals, equipment specifications, or technical proposals in an ETO or capital equipment environment
- Experience with industrial or municipal procurement processes, including customer approval cycles and change order management
Working Conditions
- Office-based in Belton, TX with regular access to the ECS manufacturing facility
- Periodic travel to customer sites for project kickoffs, site surveys, commissioning, and startup — estimated 5% depending on project load and level or as needed
- Exposure to industrial manufacturing environment during shop floor coordination — PPE required in designated areas
What We Offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience and level
- Full benefits: health, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k)
- Clear career path from SE I through Lead SE with defined criteria at every level
- A team that values accountability, technical depth, and ownership mentality
