About this role
DENT Instruments, located in Bend, Oregon, is hiring a full-time Product Manager to own the product strategy and roadmap for our submeters, current transformers, power loggers and cloud software. You'll work closely with sales and customers to understand the market, keep our portfolio competitive, and make sure our products support our growth strategy.
Day to day, you'll serve as DENT's first Scrum Product Owner, turning that strategy into clear priorities for engineering.
Two Paths Into This Role
- Industry Expert: You know energy metering, building automation or electrical equipment inside and out, and you're ready to move into product. We'll coach you on product management and Scrum.
- Product Management Pro: You've owned the strategy and roadmap for a technical B2B product, ideally as a Scrum Product Owner. You haven't worked in our industry, but you learn fast. We'll get you up to speed on our products and customers.
Either way, we'll pay for your Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) training or a similar certification. Where you land in the pay range depends on the path you come from and the experience you bring. Someone who walks both paths may justify a salary above the posted range.
Who You Are
- Decisive: You make the call with the information you have, and you can explain why.
- Customer-Focused: You'd rather pick up the phone than guess. You're comfortable on customer calls, building relationships with key accounts and asking for honest feedback.
- Market-Minded: You follow customers, competitors and market trends, and turn what you see into product decisions.
- Technically Curious: You can hold your own with engineers on hardware, firmware and software.
- Clear Communicator: Your requirements and business cases are easy to read and act on.
- Builder: You enjoy building out a function, not just running one.
What You'll Be Doing
- Owning product strategy and the roadmap across meters, current transformers, software and cloud, aligned with our growth strategy
- Working closely with sales to understand customer needs, wins and losses, and where the market is heading
- Running market and competitive analysis to keep our product portfolio competitive, including the standards and certifications that shape it
- Getting in front of customers: joining sales calls, building relationships with key accounts and OEM partners, and reaching out for feedback
- Building business cases, making value-based product decisions and giving input on pricing
- Managing the full product lifecycle, from new product ideas and customer beta testing through end-of-life decisions
- Partnering with our Marketing Manager on launches, positioning and sales training
- Serving as Scrum Product Owner for the engineering team: backlog, priorities and acceptance
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years in product management or Scrum Product Owner work on a technical B2B product, or in a technical role in energy metering, building automation, HVAC/controls or electrical equipment
- Comfort with products that combine hardware, firmware and software
- Experience working directly with customers, sales teams or partners
Nice-to-Haves
- Product marketing or launch experience
- Market research, competitive analysis or product strategy experience
- Experience with OEM or private-label partners
- Cloud or SaaS products tied to connected devices
- Familiarity with building communication protocols such as Modbus or BACnet
- Familiarity with UL, CE or ANSI certification
- Scrum or Agile experience, or a CSPO (or more advanced) certification
