About this role
Senior Data Scientist – Financial Services
Danology · Greenville, SC (Hybrid: 2 days/week in our downtown Greenville office)
Pay: $115,000 – $125,000/year + annual performance bonus (target 10%)
Job type: Full-time
About us
Danology is a 10-person data and AI consulting firm based in Greenville. We work with regional banks, credit unions and consumer lenders on credit risk, fraud and customer analytics problems. We're small, so you'll work directly with clients and leadership, and the models you build will go into production.
What you'll do
- Lead data science work on client projects, from scoping the problem to delivering it. You'll usually run 1–2 engagements at a time.
- Build, validate and deploy models for:
- Credit risk: probability-of-default, loss forecasting and scorecard development
- Fraud detection: transaction monitoring and near-real-time anomaly detection
- Customer analytics: segmentation, churn and next-best-offer modeling
- Turn vague business questions into well-defined modeling problems, and explain the tradeoffs to clients clearly.
- Write documentation that holds up to model risk management review (SR 11-7 or similar).
- Present results to client executives and to technical teams.
- Mentor 2–3 junior data scientists through code reviews and methodology discussions.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years in data science, including at least 2–3 years working with financial services data
- Strong Python (pandas, scikit-learn, XGBoost/LightGBM) and SQL. R is a plus.
- Experience deploying models on AWS or Azure. Spark or Databricks experience is helpful.
- Working knowledge of credit products and the regulations around them (e.g., fair lending, model governance)
- Comfort working directly with clients and leading projects without close supervision
- Master's or PhD in a quantitative field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
Nice to have
- Prior consulting experience
- Experience with explainability methods (SHAP, reason codes) for adverse action notices
Benefits
- Health, dental and vision insurance, with 80% of employee premiums covered
- 401(k) with 4% company match
- 15 days PTO + 10 paid holidays
- $2,500 annual training and conference budget
- Company laptop and $500 home office stipend
Hiring process
- 30-minute intro call with our founder
- 60-minute technical conversation about your past modeling work (no live coding)
- Case discussion based on a realistic client scenario
- Offer, usually within 2–3 weeks of first contact
