About this role
Freelance Product Designer for Flexible Support (Potential to become 40 hours or Contract-to-Hire in 2027)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Project-based, freelance Product Designer to support active product design capacity gaps across the client's digital product initiatives through the end of the year. This role may be embedded with an existing team or assigned a defined workstream, based on experience level and available hours. This candidate ideally has some experience working in Financial Services or other highly regulated environments.
This contract will begin as ongoing, project-based support with no guaranteed hours. The hours will vary with budget and project demand, and work is not guaranteed. In 2027, our client intends to have this become a 35- 40-hour-per-week contract that could eventually convert to full-time direct hire.
Our client will provide equipment for system access.
Working Style

Key Responsibilities
- Create complete Figma handoff files for product and development teams.
- Design responsive digital experiences across mobile through desktop breakpoints.
- Translate product requirements into screen designs, prototypes, and development-ready specifications.
- Work directly with stakeholders, product partners, designers, and developers.
- Apply established design-system processes, file organization, and documentation practices.
- Incorporate accessibility guidance and technical annotations into design files.
- Support digital experiences that may include merchant, B2B servicing, benefits, pricing, and other initiatives.
What You'll
Deliver
- Figma handoff files covering all required screen sizes and breakpoints; product screens with interaction and navigation specifications; accessibility notes (including ARIA-label guidance and copy behavior); technical annotations and developer handoff documentation.
Qualifications
- Must be local to New York, NY, and be open to coming onsite in a hybrid capacity. There is remote flexibility in 2026, but if this becomes a 40-hour-per-week contract or Contract-to-Hire, candidates will need to be willing to work a 3-day hybrid schedule.
- Advanced Figma proficiency, including prototyping and production-ready developer handoff
- End-to-end digital product design experience, including translating requirements into responsive experiences
- Strong stakeholder and developer collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently or within an established team
