Job Summary
We are seeking a creative, market-aware, and detail-oriented Children's Educational Product Designer & Product Development Specialist to help Channie's develop new product concepts, expand our educational product assortment, and identify opportunities for business growth.
The ideal candidate combines knowledge of elementary education, special needs education, curriculum development, and hands-on learning with a strong eye for product design, market trends, and consumer needs.
This person will work closely with our overseas sourcing and manufacturing teams throughout the product development process, from researching market opportunities and selecting products to developing design concepts, reviewing samples, providing feedback, and approving final products.
The goal is to help Channie's bring innovative, engaging, and differentiated children's products to market while expanding our assortment and strengthening our competitive position.
Key Responsibilities1.
Children's Educational Product
Design & Development
- Develop creative concepts for children's educational products, including coloring books, activity books, workbooks, educational flashcards, puzzles, learning toys, STEM kits, and hands-on learning tools.
- Design or help develop engaging educational content, illustrations, activities, worksheets, and visual learning materials suitable for different childhood developmental stages.
- Create products that make learning fun, interactive, age-appropriate, and easy for children to understand.
- Identify opportunities to develop original products or improve existing products through better design, functionality, educational value, and user experience.
- Contribute new product ideas that help Channie's differentiate itself from competing brands.
2. Elementary Education & Special Needs Learning
- Apply knowledge of elementary education, child development, and age-appropriate learning methods to product design.
- Incorporate experience with special education and diverse learning needs into the development of inclusive, accessible educational materials.
- Understand how children with different learning styles and abilities engage with visual aids, structured activities, manipulatives, and hands-on learning tools.
- Develop or recommend products that encourage foundational skills such as literacy, mathematics, problem-solving, creativity, fine motor development, and critical thinking.
- Identify opportunities to make learning products more accessible, engaging, and supportive of independent learning.
3. STEM & Hands-On Learning Innovation
- Research and recommend STEM-focused educational products that encourage exploration, experimentation, logical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Identify creative visual learning aids, manipulatives, science activities, building tools, and interactive educational toys.
- Evaluate whether a product offers meaningful educational value rather than simply entertainment.
- Explore emerging educational trends and innovative ways to help children learn through play, discovery, and practical activities.
- Recommend new product categories and concepts that align with Channie's brand and customer needs.
4. Market Research & Product Opportunity Identification
- Research children's educational products, market trends, competitor assortments, customer feedback, and emerging learning needs.
- Identify gaps in the market and opportunities for unique, differentiated, and commercially promising products.
- Monitor product trends across Amazon, TikTok, educational retailers, online marketplaces, and other relevant channels.
- Evaluate potential products based on educational value, customer appeal, age suitability, differentiation, quality, and estimated market potential.
- Recommend new product assortments that can help Channie's attract new customers, increase sales, and grow market share.
- Develop a pipeline of promising product ideas and present recommendations to the team.
5. Overseas Sourcing & Product Development Coordination
- Work closely with Channie's overseas sourcing team to research, select, and develop children's educational products.
- Communicate product concepts, design requirements, artwork specifications, educational objectives, and desired product features.
- Review supplier proposals, product samples, prototypes, packaging designs, and artwork.
- Provide clear feedback and coordinate revisions to ensure products meet Channie's design vision and quality expectations.
- Participate in product selection, sample review, design approval, and final product approval processes.
- Ensure that product concepts are practical to manufacture, appropriately differentiated, and aligned with target pricing and market positioning.
- Coordinate multiple product development projects and track progress from concept to launch.
6. Product Presentation & Commercial Readiness
- Help develop product names, key selling points, educational benefit statements, and product descriptions.
- Collaborate on packaging concepts, instruction materials, product photography direction, and visual presentation.
- Provide input on product listing images, educational demonstrations, and other materials used to communicate product benefits to customers.
- Help ensure that product features and educational claims are clear, accurate, and appropriate for the intended audience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Educational background or professional experience in elementary education, early childhood education, curriculum development, instructional design, or a related field.
- Experience in special education, inclusive education, learning support, or developing materials for children with diverse learning needs.
- Demonstrated ability to design or develop children's workbooks, coloring books, activity books, educational toys, or learning materials.
- Strong creativity and visual thinking skills, with an ability to recognize appealing and effective children's product designs.
- Passion for STEM education, hands-on learning, educational manipulatives, and play-based learning.
- Experience with product development, product sourcing, supplier communication, or manufacturing coordination.
- Strong market research skills and an understanding of what parents, teachers, and children look for in educational products.
- Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate with a geographically distributed team.
Additional Advantages
The following experience is a plus but is not required:
- Knowledge of children's product safety standards, testing requirements, packaging, and labeling regulations.
- Familiarity with applicable toy safety requirements, age grading, choking hazard warnings, and children's product compliance documentation.
- Experience with Amazon Seller Central, including product listing setup, catalog management, listing optimization, and launch preparation.
- Familiarity with TikTok, TikTok Shop, short-form product videos, social commerce, or identifying trending children's products through social media.
- Experience with graphic design or illustration tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, or similar software.
- Experience working with overseas manufacturers, private-label products, or consumer product sourcing teams.
- Experience using customer reviews, sales data, and competitor research to evaluate product opportunities.
Work Arrangement
- Part-time: Approximately 15 hours per week.
- Remote: Work from home with flexible scheduling.
- Collaboration: Regular communication with Channie's internal team and overseas sourcing partners.
- Project-based priorities: Work will focus on product research, concept development, design reviews, sourcing coordination, and product assortment expansion.
