About this role
Senior Product Manager, New Products (Cattle Care)
Company Overview
Cattle Care has spent nine years putting AI and computer vision to work in the physical world of dairy farming. Our cameras and software already monitor around 800,000 cows across the US, helping farms run tighter operations and keep animal welfare high.
We're profitable, we have an established distribution network across US dairies, and we're ready to grow beyond our current product suite. Agriculture is foundational to US food security, and we intend to build more of the tools that keep it running.
Role Summary
We're hiring a Senior Product Manager to find out what Cattle Care should build next. This is a discovery role with no fixed product area. Feed, health, labor, reproduction, milk quality, energy, finance, hardware, anything that moves a dairy farm's bottom line is in scope.
You'll spend a lot of time on farms with owners and managers. You'll generate hypotheses, test them, prototype quickly, and get early commitments from farms to pay. Within six months, you'll bring a validated, prioritized roadmap and a clear recommendation for our next two products.
You'll report to our Head of Product.
What You'll
Deliver in Your First 6 Months
By month six, you'll recommend Product #1 and Product #2, and the evidence will be strong enough for the founder and Head of Product to commit engineering to them.
- Months 1–2: Immerse. Visit many farms, map the operation end to end, and build a broad backlog of problems ranked by how much they cost farms.
- Months 2–4: Test. Turn the strongest problems into hypotheses. Test them with prototypes, demos, and structured interviews. Drop the weak ones quickly.
- Months 4–6: Prove and prioritize. For the finalists, get preliminary agreements from farms to pay a specific price. Deliver a ranked roadmap that explains:
- Why Product #1 gives a farm the greatest ROI within 12 months, with numbers
- How each product fits our current suite and distribution
- What it would take to build, and what you chose not to pursue and why
Key Responsibilities
- Field discovery: Spend about 40% of your time on dairy farms across the US with owners, managers, and staff. Learn how the farm makes and loses money. Handle remote follow-ups and video calls the rest of the time.
- Hypothesis generation and validation: Turn observations into testable hypotheses. Design quick experiments and decide on evidence, not enthusiasm.
- Rapid, AI-powered prototyping: Use AI tools every day for research synthesis, analysis, and building clickable or functional demos. Put a working concept in front of a farmer in days, not quarters.
- Willingness-to-pay validation: Get preliminary agreements, such as LOIs, pilot commitments, or priced pre-orders, from farms to pay a specific amount for a product before we build it.
- ROI modeling and prioritization: Build a farm-level business case for each opportunity, including cost, payback, and 12-month ROI. Rank opportunities by value to farms, fit with our suite, and effort to build.
- Cross-functional leverage: Work with Sales and Customer Success for farm access and market insight, and with Engineering for feasibility and estimates.
- Recommendation: Present a validated roadmap and your Product #1 and #2 picks to the founder and Head of Product, who make the final call.
Requirements
- 5+ years of product management, with at least one product you discovered, validated, and saw through to launch. Show us the hypotheses you dropped as well as the ones that shipped.
- AI native: You use AI tools every day and can build working demos and prototypes yourself, including by vibe coding, without waiting for engineering.
- Strong discovery skills: You know how to run customer interviews, design experiments, and separate a real need from a polite "that sounds nice."
- Commercial instinct: You're comfortable asking a customer to commit money before a product exists. You can build a credible ROI model.
- Field-ready: You're willing to travel about 40% of the time across the US, often to rural areas, and you enjoy time in barns as much as in meetings.
- Clear communication: Excellent spoken and written English. You can explain your reasoning to a farm owner and to an engineer equally well.
- High autonomy: You set your own agenda and push work forward on your own, without needing a process around you.
Nice to Have
- Experience in the dairy, livestock, or broader agriculture industry, especially on farm operations or economics
- A hardware or IoT background (sensors, cameras, edge devices) or experience shipping physical-plus-software products
- Spanish, for talking directly with farm staff
- Experience with computer vision or ML products
- A startup background with experience taking a product from zero to one
Why Join
- A blank page with real leverage: You decide what we build next. Distribution, customer trust, and a team that ships are already in place. A significant equity stake means you own a real piece of the products you pick.
- A profitable company, not a cash countdown: After nine years in AI and the physical world, we can make good bets instead of desperate ones.
- Work that matters: Dairy farms feed the country, and better tools for them make the US food supply more resilient.
- Real-world product work: Your users wear boots, and your feedback loop runs through a barn.
- And yes, you'll earn the right to call yourself a cowboy.
