Job description

About this role

Big Wave Digital is partnering with Unit to find a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer who combines strong engineering fundamentals with an eye for beautifully built products.

Unit is an AI creative company building GTV, a platform bringing creativity and automation together to change how video content is made. Its team includes senior talent from Instagram, TikTok and NVIDIA, with backing from Khosla Ventures, Air Street Capital and leaders in AI.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of the product side of GTV, work closely with the founders and help deliver major upcoming launches.

The opportunity

You’ll build across the stack, taking ideas and designs through to polished, production-ready experiences. Think intuitive interfaces, responsive interactions and thoughtful details, backed by excellent code.

You’ll also lead by example: setting engineering standards, owning technical decisions and helping a team of strong mid-level engineers develop their skills.

This will suit someone who enjoys the pace, ownership and close collaboration of a founder-led startup.

The team works onsite in San Francisco five days a week.

What you’ll be doing

  • Building full-stack features across elegant interfaces, robust APIs and scalable application infrastructure.
  • Integrating LLM APIs, AI agents and generative models into useful product experiences.
  • Leading major product initiatives from concept and prototype through to launch.
  • Turning designs into polished interfaces, with close attention to latency, usability and visual quality.
  • Working with the founders, Product, Sales, Marketing, customers and creatives to shape what gets built.
  • Setting code quality standards and mentoring teammates through hands-on work.

What you’ll bring

  • 5–10 years of full-stack product engineering experience

, with strong TypeScript, Next.js/React and Node.js skills.

  • At least 12 months of professional, hands-on experience building and shipping AI/LLM-powered agentic products

at a startup or AI-focused company.

  • Startup experience

, with a track record of navigating ambiguity and getting products into users’ hands.

  • Experience as a hands-on technical lead, writing excellent code while raising the standard around you.
  • Strong product judgement and design sense. You don’t need to be a designer, but you should know how to bring a design to life well.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, system design and application architecture.
  • A formal degree in computer science or engineering.
  • Clear, fluent English communication across technical discussions, documentation and agent instructions.

For this search, professional AI product experience is essential; personal projects alone won’t meet the requirement. Candidates whose experience is entirely in big tech, or whose background is solely bootcamp-based or self-taught, won’t meet the current brief.

Experience with video generation, encoding, playback or distribution would be a bonus, as would consumer-facing generative AI experience.

The stack

TypeScript, Next.js, React, Tailwind, Node.js and Python, alongside LLM APIs, AI agents, Vercel, AWS, Docker and CI/CD. The team also uses Claude Code and Codex.

The AI work focuses on integrating models through APIs, so the emphasis is on product engineering rather than model training.

What’s on offer

  • US$225,000–$275,000 base salary
  • Competitive equity grant
  • Medical, dental and vision benefits
  • Direct collaboration with the founders and meaningful ownership of an emerging AI video product

The interview process

A founder screen, followed by a full onsite day covering system design, coding, career experience and a hands-on technical project, with lunch with the team. The process moves quickly, with a possible same-day offer.

Interested? Apply with your CV and links to products you’ve built, particularly anything visual or user-facing. Please highlight what you personally owned and the AI or agentic functionality you shipped.

A product portfolio, live links, demos or screenshots are welcome. We’re interested in your engineering work and how you bring products to life.
