About Big Easy Management

Big Easy Management is a growing hospitality property management company based in New Orleans, managing approximately 200 active rentals, including vacation rentals, boutique hotels, and luxury residences.

We're a small, collaborative team that values transparency, ownership, problem-solving, and innovation. We don't believe in micromanagement, but we do believe in accountability, teamwork, and always looking for ways to improve.

While most of our team works remotely, we believe in the importance of getting together. We hold quarterly in-person team meetings in New Orleans, and attendance is an expectation for this position.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on Controller to lead our accounting and finance operations.

You'll oversee financial reporting, owner accounting, billing, cash management, and internal controls while helping leadership make better financial decisions.

We're especially interested in someone who embraces technology, AI, and automation to simplify processes, improve accuracy, and help our company scale efficiently.

This role reports directly to the CEO and participates in weekly leadership meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll accounting, and company expenses.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting by property, department, and business line.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, control expenses, and strengthen financial performance.

Billing & Owner Accounting

  • Own the monthly billing process, ensuring management fees, maintenance, cleaning, supplies, and other reimbursable expenses are accurately billed and collected.
  • Establish controls to prevent missed charges, billing errors, and outstanding balances.
  • Oversee trust accounting, owner statements, distributions, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of property-level revenue, expenses, and owner reimbursements.
  • Resolve owner and vendor accounting questions promptly and professionally.

Cash Management & Controls

  • Manage cash flow, banking, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and accurate accounting records.
  • Coordinate with outside tax and payroll professionals to ensure compliance.

Technology & Process Improvement

  • Lead efforts to automate billing, reconciliations, reporting, and other accounting workflows.
  • Use AI and technology to reduce manual work while maintaining appropriate financial controls.
  • Work across departments to improve efficiency and financial visibility.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and develop the Staff Accountant and other accounting support.
  • Participate in company leadership meetings and contribute to strategic decisions.
  • Take ownership of financial issues and implement solutions that prevent recurring problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including month-end close and financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with property management accounting, trust accounting, or owner statements.
  • Advanced QuickBooks Online and Excel/Google Sheets skills.
  • Experience supervising accounting staff.
  • Comfortable using AI, automation, and modern accounting tools.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred

CPA, hospitality or short-term rental accounting experience, and experience improving financial processes in a growing company.

What We're Looking For

Someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly, and solves problems proactively. We want someone who can lead a department but isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and do the work.
