About this role
About the Role
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer with 1–2 years of experience to help build and improve Better Direct's CRM platform. You will work across the frontend, backend, and database layers on workflows for opportunities, quotes, approvals, inventory, purchasing, sales orders, and invoices.
This role is suited to an engineer who learns quickly, works carefully with business data, and can take ownership of focused features with guidance from the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain CRM features across React, Express, Prisma, and PostgreSQL
- Create responsive interfaces using React, TypeScript, Material UI, and MUI X
- Design validated REST APIs with Node.js, Express, and Zod
- Write reliable SQL queries and protect data correctness
- Work with authentication, RBAC, MinIO storage, and external integrations
- Write tests, debug issues, review code, and verify changes before release
- Use OpenAI Codex for scoped coding, testing, debugging, and documentation
- Collaborate with product, operations, and engineering teammates
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 1–2 years of professional experience in software development
- Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript
- Experience with Node.js and Express plus REST APIs
- Solid understanding of SQL and PostgreSQL data modeling
- Familiarity with Git, automated testing, code review, and debugging
- Hands-on experience using OpenAI Codex and reviewing its output
- Understanding of authentication, authorization, and secure coding
Nice-to-Have Skills (Optional)
- Experience with TanStack Query and TanStack Router
- Familiarity with Redux Toolkit for client state management
- Experience using Material UI and MUI X
- Knowledge of Prisma ORM and Zod
- Experience with MinIO or S3-compatible object storage
- Exposure to Python, FastAPI, Celery, Redis, Selenium, or pytest

Compensation and Eligibility
- Base salary of $60,000 to $70,000 per year, based on experience
- United States citizenship is required for this position
