About this role
Overview The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track assistant professor position in Statistics and Data Science (SDS), beginning on August 1, 2027. Candidates with expertise in all areas of statistics and data science are encouraged to apply.
All areas of statistical research will be considered. We are particularly interested in applicants whose research lies at the interface of statistics and artificial intelligence or machine learning, including mathematical and statistical foundations, inferential methods, and computational algorithms.
Candidates should demonstrate a proven record of, or a strong interest in, developing interdisciplinary research collaborations and strengthening graduate and undergraduate education through teaching and research mentoring.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University boasts a dynamic faculty of over 50 members, specializing in a wide range of mathematical, statistical, and data science fields. This variety and the strengths of our faculty create a stimulating environment for both research and teaching.
As a prospective faculty member, you will find vibrant, emerging research areas that complement both theoretical and applied data science. The department offers a Ph.D. program in Statistics and Data Science and MS programs in Statistics and Data Science.

Responsibilities
Successful candidates are expected to pursue independent research and teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Qualifications
An earned doctorate in Statistics or a closely related field is required by the appointment start date.
Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English and possess excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
