About this role

Software Engineering

Lead - AI-Augmented Software Development

About the opportunity

Anthology Solutions Inc. is recruiting two experienced Java software engineers for an enterprise client's engineering team. The roles are hybrid and based primarily in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. A limited number of San Francisco-based candidates with exceptional profiles may also be considered.

The team is working on a multi-year program focused on AI-augmented software development, using generative AI throughout the software development lifecycle while maintaining high standards for quality, security, performance, and maintainability.

The engagement starts as a 12-month contract with the potential to convert to full-time employment with the client or to be extended. C2C engagements are preferred; W-2 employment through Anthology may also be considered. Anthology represents candidates for these openings, and all applications are submitted to Anthology.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and maintain full-stack applications and services using Java and the Spring Framework.
  • Use generative AI tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or ChatGPT to support development, code review, debugging, testing, and documentation.
  • Take ownership of manually written and AI-generated code, including review, testing, and validation before production release.
  • Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code following engineering best practices.
  • Define prompts, task specifications, and acceptance criteria that guide AI tools and agents effectively.
  • Apply specification-driven development practices to structure implementation.
  • Design and develop AI agents, including workflows, tool integrations, and orchestration logic.
  • Review AI-generated outputs for correctness, security, performance, and suitability, and refine or reject outputs when appropriate.
  • Develop and improve unit, integration, and regression tests using AI-assisted tools, with sufficient coverage before deployment.
  • Identify performance, reliability, security, and technical-debt issues early and drive remediation.
  • Modernize existing applications using AI-assisted approaches to improve maintainability and performance.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
  • Contribute to prompt-engineering standards and share AI-enabled engineering practices across the team.

Required qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong, hands-on proficiency in Java, including building services with the Spring Framework.
  • Demonstrated applied use of generative AI development tools (such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor) in real development and code-review work, with examples you can discuss.
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, system design, object-oriented programming, databases, networking, concurrency, and CI/CD.
  • Ability to review and validate AI-generated code for quality, security, and performance.
  • Understanding of agentic workflows, AI-assisted development, and specification-driven development.
  • Experience with prompt engineering and structured AI interactions.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience building AI agents using LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Familiarity with secure coding practices and application security.
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications.

What success looks like

  • Deliver features faster while improving quality through AI-assisted development.
  • Demonstrate strong ownership of manually written and AI-generated code.
  • Help advance AI-driven engineering practices across the team.
  • Continuously strengthen prompt-engineering, agent-development, and modern software-engineering skills.
