Your Role: Business Intelligence Specialist
The Business Intelligence Specialist works closely with Project Managers, Engineering Leads, and Project Controls to develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and KPI tools using Deltek VantagePoint, Power BI, and Excel.
This role monitors planned vs. actuals to ensure best utilization, revenue, and ROI; mines data to reveal trends and limit non-billable time; and delivers value-added analytics that support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and KPI tools using Power BI, Excel, and Deltek VantagePoint
- Apply effective data visualization best practices to represent complex data in accessible, actionable formats for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with PMs, Engineering Leads, and Accounting to implement standard reporting; support ad-hoc requests with accurate, timely outputs in clear visual formats

Data Management & Integration
- Assist with ETL processes and support integration between BI tools and source systems including Deltek VantagePoint and financial platforms
- Validate and maintain accuracy of data used in dashboards and reports; identify and resolve quality issues before they impact deliverables
- Maintain up-to-date BI architecture documentation including data sources, transformation logic, and report lineage
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
- Mine data to reveal project and business trends that increase profits, reduce non-billable time, and drive continuous improvement; deliver value-added analytics on business performance
- Generate KPI reports and trend analyses for cost tracking, schedule variance, utilization, and operational performance; escalate discrepancies with clear documentation
BI Tools & Technical Proficiency
- Demonstrate proficient working knowledge of Power BI including dashboard development, DAX measures, and data model relationships
- Use Microsoft Excel at an advanced level (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, nested logic) and write simple to intermediate SQL queries against relational databases
- Navigate and extract data from Deltek VantagePoint for project cost, schedule, and resource reporting
Business & Industry Acumen
- Support project managers and engineering leads with cost tracking, schedule variance, and planned vs. actuals monitoring to ensure best utilization, revenue, and ROI
- Track KPIs relevant to engineering and project delivery; develop working knowledge of electric utility services operations and project lifecycle phases
Communication & Collaboration
- Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, accounting, and project controls to gather requirements, validate outputs, and ensure BI deliverables meet business needs
- Present findings, dashboards, and analytical results in clear visual formats for non-technical audiences
- Assist users in interpreting dashboards and BI tools; participate in stakeholder meetings and design sessions; drive outcomes across cross-functional teams
What You Bring
Minimum Requirements:
🎓 Education
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems
OR
a Power BI certification or equivalent
📊 Experience
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience providing actionable analysis and/or business intelligence for organizations
💡 Preferred Skills
- Proficient in Power BI or similar data visualization tools (Tableau, SAS, MicroStrategy); Power BI certification or equivalent preferred; SQL experience a strong plus
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and nested logic; Deltek VantagePoint experience preferred
- Strong understanding of relational database structures; ability to analyze data and recommend solutions to reduce waste and improve efficiency
- Strong work ethic and ability to work autonomously; proven ability to collaborate and drive outcomes across teams spanning disciplines and locations
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, organized insights for audiences at all levels
