About this role
AMETEK is a leading global provider of differentiated electronic instruments and electromechanical devices. The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining ORTEC software applications for Microsoft Windows and embedded platforms.
This position supports software modernization and new product development initiatives while collaborating closely with product management and cross-functional engineering teams. The role also requires the effective use of AI-assisted development tools while applying sound engineering judgment to validate accuracy, maintainability, security, and long-term architectural sustainability.
Software Development & Architecture
Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain Windows desktop and service-based applications. Design, develop, and support service-oriented and distributed software architectures using modern communication frameworks, including gRPC and REST APIs. Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable, and testable software solutions.
Develop software solutions that interface with ORTEC instrumentation and data acquisition systems. Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, and technical planning activities. Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
DevOps, Security & Quality
Design, implement, and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines supporting automated build, test, deployment, and software quality processes. Apply Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF) principles and secure coding practices throughout the software development lifecycle. Support threat mitigation, vulnerability management, dependency analysis, and security-focused code reviews.
Maintain technical requirements, design documentation, and test artifacts. Utilize configuration management and source control tools such as SVN, Git, and TFS.
Collaboration & Leadership
Collaborate with product management, manufacturing, quality, and customer support teams. Apply Agile methodologies and software engineering best practices. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing and Customer Service teams. Demonstrate strong technical collaboration and communication skills.
Requirements
Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or a related field. Minimum of eight (8) years of professional software development experience. Due to potential work on ITAR-related products and projects, candidates must be a U.S.
Person (U.S. citizen or green card holder). Technical Qualifications Strong proficiency in C# and C++. Proficiency with Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web application development.
Experience building responsive and maintainable user interfaces for scientific, industrial, or enterprise software applications. Experience integrating front-end applications with REST and gRPC-based backend services. Understanding of frontend architecture, state management, component design, and UI/UX best practices.
Experience using Azure DevOps for source control, work item management, build automation, release management, and CI/CD implementation. Familiarity with secure software development frameworks, secure coding standards, software supply chain security, and cybersecurity best practices.
Understanding of application security concepts including authentication, authorization, encryption, certificate management, vulnerability remediation, and secure communications. AI-Assisted Development Ability to effectively utilize AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar technologies to improve engineering productivity.
Ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated code, designs, documentation, and recommendations. Understanding of the strengths, limitations, security implications, and potential risks associated with AI-assisted software development. Experience applying AI tools to software design, coding, debugging, testing, code reviews, and technical documentation.
