ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Fiber Supervisor at SpaceXAI’s Memphis data center, you’ll lead the fiber optic installation and maintenance teams that keep critical network infrastructure online. Working onsite with project management and superintendents, you’ll plan work, direct technicians, and own quality, safety, and schedule on datacenter fiber projects.

Expect to stay hands-on, coach the crew, and make sure systems run reliably in support of SpaceXAI’s mission of accelerating human scientific discovery through AI.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise fiber technicians through all phases of datacenter installation projects, in coordination with the Project Manager and Superintendent
  • Assign daily work, set priorities, and track progress so installations, splices, and repairs finish on schedule and to standard
  • Ensure a safe and productive work environment, including job-site briefings, PPE compliance, and elevation and confined-space practices
  • Develop inspection points and sensor checks so faulty fiber does not degrade system performance
  • Direct troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and installation of fiber optic systems, and verify work before closeout
  • Review and approve replacement of faulty or aging fiber optic cables
  • Organize and oversee scheduled maintenance routines
  • Oversee fiber splicing and resolution of problem areas; confirm test results and signal levels
  • Track signal strength across devices and escalate anomalies
  • Maintain system records, as-builts, and design markups; report status to project leadership
  • Coach technicians on methods, quality, and documentation, and model the hands-on standard expected on site

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years of experience supervising or leading fiber optic technicians on commercial or data center installation projects
  • 3+ years of direct data center experience installing and routing optical fiber in large-scale Tier 3 or 4 facilities as a commercial fiber optic technician
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing
  • Position is subject to pre-employment and annual post employment background checks
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Work is often performed in tight quarters and physical dexterity is necessary to perform job functions
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs unassisted
  • Comfortable working at elevated heights (up to 50 feet) with appropriate safety gear
  • Comfortable working in an environment requiring exposure to noise
  • Available to work evenings and weekends, as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Certification in fiber optics and/or cable installation
  • Extensive experience in fiber splicing
  • Technical knowledge of communication networks
  • Knowledgeable of computers and associated electronic systems
  • Knowledgeable of different fiber types
  • Experience installing, certifying, and troubleshooting fiber in hyperscale data center environments
  • Experience installing structured cabling
  • Highly proficient using a light meter, OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), OPMs (optical power meter), fiber certifier, loopback, and optical probes
  • Able to understand different types of switches and port identifications
  • Able to properly clean fiber and validate cleanliness
