Company-specific questions

  • An investigator on your pod freezes a high-net-worth client’s account due to severe device and IP anomalies. The client is furious and threatens to pull their entire portfolio. CX Leadership escalates directly to you, demanding the account be unfrozen immediately to save the relationship, arguing the investigator is being "too rigid." What is your best course of action?
  • While monitoring the queue, you realize a highly sophisticated, coordinated Account Takeover (ATO) attack is hitting the platform. SLAs are quickly turning red, and the backlog is growing. Your team is stressed and asking how to prioritize. What is your strategic move?
  • Wealthsimple launches a new instant-funding feature. Fraudsters immediately find a loophole that isn't covered in your team’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Investigators are confused and handling the cases inconsistently, leading to wildly different client experiences. What do you do?
  • Tell us about a specific time you had to coach a peer or an investigator through a critical error, for example, they missed a glaring red flag and released funds to a fraudster, or they incorrectly denied a massive, legitimate client claim. How did you handle the immediate operational fallout, deliver the tough feedback, and ensure the mistake wasn't repeated, all while maintaining their confidence and psychological safety?essay

Build something people love

Wealthsimple is Canada’s leading financial innovator. The company offers a full suite of simple, sophisticated financial products across managed investing, do-it-yourself trading, cryptocurrency, tax filing, spending and saving. Wealthsimple currently serves more than 4 million Canadians and holds over $155 billion in assets under administration.

The company was founded in 2014 by a team of financial experts and technology entrepreneurs, and is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

We're proud of what we've built — and we're just getting started. Read our Culture Manual and learn more about how we work .

At Wealthsimple, we take our clients' security seriously. The Fraud Investigations team is the front line of defense within our Security & Risk group. We are looking for a sharp, decisive, and detail-obsessed Team Lead to oversee a pod of Fraud Investigators.

You won't be tied to just one type of fraud. As a Team Lead, you will be the player-coach guiding the detectives who protect our platform from everything from complex account takeovers to sophisticated money mule networks. You will act as the ultimate escalation point, drive team performance, and ensure our defenses stay one step ahead of the bad actors.

What You Will Do

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of a pod of Fraud Investigators. Conduct 1:1s, run side-by-sides, and actively coach your team to elevate their investigative techniques and decision-making.
  • Oversee complex fraud queues, ensuring the team strictly maintains case-closure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) without sacrificing investigative quality.
  • Step in on the most complex, ambiguous, or high-dollar investigations. You are the final set of eyes when an investigator needs help navigating a tricky bank indemnity, a complex crypto trace, or a sophisticated identity ring.
  • Lead weekly calibration sessions with your pod. Spot emerging fraud typologies across the platform, document trends, and partner directly with Risk, Compliance, and Product to build better automated defenses.
  • Ensure your team’s case documentation is flawless, empowering client-facing teams with exactly what they need to manage the client relationship during high-stress situations.
  • Serve as the chief quality-control officer for your pod, establishing investigative playbooks and ensuring all decisions align with Wealthsimple’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.

What you bring

  • Minimum 1 year of tenure at Wealthsimple, currently at a L3 role (or higher), with at least a "Meets Expectations" rating on your most recent performance review.
  • 4+ years of direct, hands-on experience in backend fraud investigations (e.g., banking/fiat fraud, account takeovers, payments, or digital assets).
  • Proven track record of mentoring, coaching, or leading peers. You know how to build a culture of psychological safety, calm, and focus in a high-stress environment.
  • Deep understanding of fraud typologies and financial ledgers. You can look at complex data (IPs, device IDs, transaction metadata) and instantly spot the behavioral anomalies.
  • Strong bias for action. You make sound, high-stakes decisions with incomplete information, and you know exactly when to escalate and when to hold.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You can translate complex fraud investigations into clear business impact for leadership and partner teams.
