We're proud of what we've built — and we're just getting started. Read our Culture Manual and learn more about how we work .
About the role
As a Senior Software Developer on the Post-Trade Management team, you will design and deliver the software that keeps post-trade processing running smoothly: from clearing and settlement to inventory reconciliation across each of the 8 (and counting!) external depositories we work with. Every time we launch a new product, our pipelines must expand to handle it so there’s no shortage of opportunities here.
Read on if you're an engineer who wants to deep dive into a complex domain and isn’t satisfied unless you understand exactly how everything works. This is your opportunity to leave your mark on a system that processes billions of dollars for millions of Canadians. This role reports to the Software Development Manager, Post-Trade Management.
About the team
Trades are just the beginning for the Post-Trade Management team! You won't find any of our code in our apps, but our work is vital to Wealthsimple’s success. As our company keeps growing, so does the volume and complexity of what we automate behind the scenes and our partners in Securities Operations rely on us to provide them with the tools to do their jobs efficiently.
We are a close-knit team of six developers who measure success as a collective, not as individuals. We collaborate to solve tough problems and challenge each other’s perspectives to come up with the best possible solution in any scenario. We see pair programming and working directly with our partners in Operations as invaluable aspects of our success.
You will have the opportunity to
- Design and deliver post-trade automations across depositories to support new and existing products
- Contribute to technical design decisions that shape the future of our post-trade processing pipeline
- Mentor other developers through pairing, code review, and in-the-moment feedback
- Use AI to accelerate development and explore new ideas as part of how the team builds day-to-day
- Partner closely with Securities Operations, Product Management, and other engineering teams to understand the why behind what we’re building, not just the what and the how
Skills you bring
- Senior-level backend software development experience with a focus on Ruby on Rails
- Experience designing and delivering complex automations or data pipelines in a production environment
- Comfort working with high-stakes, high-accuracy systems where correctness and auditability matter
- Experience mentoring other engineers through code review, pairing, or in-the-moment feedback
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with cross-functional partners like operations, product, and other engineering teams
Nice to have
- Experience with Java or Kotlin; front-end frameworks like React; Oracle, Postgres, Kubernetes, or AWS infrastructure
- Past FinTech experience, exposure to ledgers, brokerage, custody, clearing, or settlement systems
- Experience in a regulated or compliance-sensitive engineering environment
Who you are
- When you see a problem you fix it, instead of leaving it for someone else to find.
- You are curious about how things work and ask questions consistently to super-charge your growth.
- You share what you know and prioritize making the team around you better through pairing and code reviews.
- You dive deep into the unknown and build context quickly across teams and systems.
- You get the details right because you understand how small errors compound.
