What we’re looking for

We are seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer I, Quality Engineering (Automation) to join SurveyMonkey. As a key contributor, you will help build and scale automated testing frameworks, quality engineering practices, and release processes that ensure our products remain reliable, performant, and delightful for millions of users worldwide.

This role is critical in enabling engineering teams to deliver high-quality software at speed. You will work closely with software engineers, product managers, designers, and fellow quality engineers to establish testing strategies, improve release confidence, and drive quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

You understand that quality is a shared responsibility. While automation is central to maintaining engineering velocity, you also recognize the importance of exploratory and risk-based testing to uncover issues that automated checks may not detect. What you’ll be working on

• Designing and developing scalable automation frameworks and test suites using WebdriverIO, JavaScript, and modern testing tools.
• Driving quality initiatives end-to-end, from test planning and automation strategy through release validation and production readiness.
• Building and maintaining automated functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test coverage across our applications.
• Verifying and validating RESTful APIs, third-party integrations, and backend services through code-based testing approaches.
• Performing cross-browser, cross-platform, exploratory, and user-focused testing to ensure exceptional customer experiences.
• Supporting performance, load, and scalability testing efforts to identify bottlenecks before production.
• Working closely with engineering teams to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
• Investigating production issues, performing root cause analysis, and collaborating with developers to improve product reliability.
• Improving feature observability through logs, metrics, monitoring, and alerting systems such as Splunk and CloudWatch.
• Mentoring engineers on testing best practices and contributing to the overall quality engineering strategy across the platform.

We’d love to hear from people with

• 5+ years of professional experience in Quality Engineering, Software Testing, or Test Automation.
• Strong experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks using JavaScript-based tools such as WebdriverIO, Playwright, Cypress, TestCafe, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on experience testing and validating RESTful APIs and service integrations through automated code-based approaches.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile methodologies, and modern quality engineering practices.
• Experience working with CI/CD platforms, automated deployment pipelines, and test execution workflows.
• Familiarity with containerized environments using Docker and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with test management and issue tracking platforms such as Jira and TestRail.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, database validation, test data management, and backend testing concepts.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues and performing defect triage and root cause analysis.
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and data-driven approach to quality improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to lead test planning activities, influence quality practices, and mentor other engineers.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working across engineering, product, and design teams.

Nice to have

• Experience developing automation utilities and frameworks using JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, or Python.
• Hands-on experience with performance and load testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, k6, or equivalent platforms.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, service orchestration, and cloud-native deployment environments.
• Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Splunk, CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar tools.
• Knowledge of frontend testing practices for modern web applications, including React-based applications.
• Experience validating analytics, payments, authentication, security, or other third-party integrations.
• Experience testing multi-tenant SaaS products, survey platforms, forms products, or customer-facing web applications.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering productivity practices.

SurveyMonkey believes in-person collaboration is valuable for building relationships, fostering community, and enhancing our speed and execution in problem-solving and decision-making. As such, this opportunity is hybrid and requires you to work from the SurveyMonkey office in Bengaluru 3 days per week.
