About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead.
That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
The Link team builds the premier consumer network for next-generation commerce, leveraging our base of 300M+ registered consumers to pioneer the future of Identity, Consumer Finance, and AI-driven transactions. While our foundation was built on high-conversion merchant payments and a flexible digital wallet, we are expanding far beyond.
We are building the infrastructure for a world where AI agents transact on your behalf, stablecoins go mainstream, and identity dictates how money moves.
The Consumer Preference team is building the Link experience across the web app and agents — building the wallet product consumers need to feel confident, excited, and inspired by the new ways payments and identity are changing online.
As a senior member of the team, you will create new experiences such as financial insights powered by purchase history, rewards cards backed by a stablecoin balance, safe agentic purchase UX, automatic purchase protections, and subscription management.
What you’ll do
- We’re hiring a Staff Full Stack Engineer to lead the design and delivery of new consumer capabilities in Link.
- The ideal candidate will combine technical depth across the stack with a strong product sense.
- In this role, you will take ambiguous product opportunities, create ways to validate them early, and ultimately ship complete products.
- This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with broad technical and organizational scope.
- You will own large, cross-functional projects from early product and technical definition through launch and iteration; lead teams of engineers through complex execution; and partner closely with the many Stripe systems and teams that provide new capabilities.
- You will work across the stack, building services and APIs as well as user interfaces.
- You will make the architectural decisions that balance a high quality bar with the need to move fast and iterate quickly.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive technical strategy across Link Consumer, connecting near-term product delivery to a cohesive, durable engineering vision.
- Lead large, ambiguous 0→1 initiatives from problem definition and architecture through implementation, safe launch, and iteration.
- Design, build, and maintain polished user experiences, reliable backend services, APIs, and systems.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and foundational investments early, creating incremental plans that de-risk the roadmap and accelerate future work.
- Partner with engineering teams across Stripe, building alignment and influencing their roadmaps and priorities when Link Consumer depends on shared capabilities.
- Champion pragmatic solutions and code patterns throughout our codebase, setting standards in React/JavaScript/CSS/GraphQL as well as Ruby APIs and LLM-powered systems
- Ensure our UI and backend components are reliable, secure, extensible, and accessible
- Define operational processes and lead response to production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack, growing the learning and retrospective culture on our team and driving remediations that reduce risk
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 8+ years of backend and/or full-stack software development experience, with a track record of owning large, ambiguous systems end-to-end.
- Demonstrated technical experience leading the design and delivery of large, complex software projects from early definition through production launch.
- Strong full-stack engineering skills, including experience building reliable backend services and polished user-facing product experiences.
- Experience leading and unblocking a group of engineers on a substantial project as a senior individual contributor.
- Ability to operate effectively in high-ambiguity environments: framing problems, making durable technical decisions, and creating an actionable path forward.
- Excellent cross-functional and cross-organizational collaboration skills, with the ability to align teams with different systems, priorities, and constraints.
- Strong engineering judgment around system reliability, operational excellence, security, and maintainability.
- A product-minded approach to engineering, with a focus on delivering meaningful outcomes for users and the business.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Java, Ruby, and/or TypeScript. We care more about strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn than expertise in a particular language or framework.
- Experience building payments, money-movement, fintech, or other regulated financial products.
- Experience building consumer products at scale, particularly products that require a high degree of user trust.
- Experience working on 0→1 products or taking new capabilities from concept through launch and iteration.
- Familiarity with LLM-powered products, evals, or agentic assistants.
- Appreciation for the importance of strong distribution and taking pride in seeing projects through to successful completion.
