ROLE: SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER

TEAM: PRODUCT

LOCATION: TORONTO (HYBRID)

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Salt is a North American marketing agency that creates connected experiences through creative, digital & media innovation.

Our mission is to “Earn The World’s Attention” and Salt is built to find, develop, execute, and amplify the ideas that are worthy of our clients’ audiences. We’ve structured our agency to do what’s right for our clients – to connect different perspectives, to work across mediums, and to focus on delivering meaningful, effective results.

We’re committed to living up to the values in our name. “Salt of The Earth” means we value collaborative, humble, hard-working people here. We’re looking for people who are as smart as they are kind because we believe the right talent and the right culture help us do what’s right for our clients.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Join us as a Senior Software Engineer building the next generation of AI products. This is a hands-on senior software development role: you'll spend roughly 80% of your time designing, building, and shipping full-stack product features and backend services, working with the latest AI, cloud, and developer technologies to deliver solutions used across the organization.

The remaining ~20% is platform work — keeping the cloud environments, data pipelines, and deployment tooling behind our AI products reliable and secure.

Working closely with product and engineering, you will own features end to end — from technical design through release and iteration — while contributing to the CI/CD, infrastructure, and security practices that keep our AI platforms running well.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Software Engineering

  • Build full-stack applications: Design, develop, and maintain Python & Node.js backend services and modern React frontends, delivering reliable APIs and intuitive user experiences.
  • Own delivery end to end: Translate business requirements into technical solutions, leading features through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration.
  • Develop integrations: Connect products with social media platforms, enterprise systems, external APIs, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, handling authentication, data synchronization, and failures reliably.
  • Shape technical architecture: Make thoughtful decisions about application structure, data models, performance, and scalability, balancing delivery needs with long-term maintainability.
  • Raise engineering quality: Write clean, well-tested code, lead constructive code reviews, mentor developers, and improve engineering practices.
  • Automation and Productivity : Use AI agents and tooling to build a robust, highly productive and fast paced engineering environment.
  • Build for production: Embed security, monitoring, and observability into applications; troubleshoot issues and improve reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work closely with product, design, and engineering to clarify requirements, identify risks, and deliver practical solutions.

Platform & DevOps

  • Maintain efficient cloud infrastructure and development environments.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines supporting AI products.
  • Improve platform reliability, monitoring, logging, and performance.
  • Ensure data quality, governance, and secure data handling.
  • Implement secure deployment practices, CI/CD, and automated quality gates.
  • Support dependency management, vulnerability remediation, and security testing.
  • Ensure products follow secure coding standards and compliance requirements.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • High-quality product features delivered on schedule.
  • Reliable data pipelines powering AI products.
  • Highly available and scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Secure applications with vulnerabilities identified and remediated early.
  • Strong collaboration across engineering, product, and security teams.
  • Well-documented systems that are easy to maintain and scale.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • BSc or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience, including backend and full-stack delivery.
  • Working familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Cloud Build), Docker, and cloud infrastructure management.
  • Working knowledge of application security, including secure coding, IAM, OAuth/SSO, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and security best practices.
  • Experience developing full-stack applications and APIs using modern technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to support production environments and improve application reliability.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across product, engineering, infrastructure, and security teams in an Agile environment.
  • Experience with TypeScript, React, Tailwind, and Node.js.
  • Experience with untyped languages such as Python for backend development, along with relevant data management libraries.
  • Familiarity with production application deployment and maintenance on AWS and/or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with data orchestration and pipeline management.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL based systems.
  • Demonstrated experience owning and delivering projects end to end.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience integrating APIs, building automation workflows (e.g., n8n), and working with AI/LLM platforms such as Gemini, Vertex AI, OpenAI, or Claude.
  • Familiarity with UX flows and writing specs/SOPs.
  • Exposure to automation or agentic workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with AI, LLM, and RAG-based systems.
  • ‘Big Tech’ or large-scale product engineering experience.
