In this role, your job is to guide the team, build great software, and own the services we create from start to finish.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing
- Day-to-day work: You will build and maintain an Observability stack using in-house, open source and cloud managed services and run data pipelines (ETL) and use big data tools. You will check system health and fix problems quickly so our services stay online.
- Leading the way: You will teach and mentor other engineers to help them grow and do their best work.
- Working together: You will talk to partners and customers all over the world to make sure they get what they need.
- Long-term goals & impact: You will make our cloud faster, safer, and easier to use for millions of people. You will learn how to run big, global systems and become a top leader in the tech world.
Tech Stack:
- Cloud & Compute: AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes (EKS/GKE) for stateless, scalable multi-cloud orchestration.
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform for resilient, automated platform provisioning across environments.
- Edge Ingestion: OpenTelemetry (OTel) for standardized instrumentation, and Vector/Fluent Bit for high-throughput log routing.
- Message Buffering: Apache Kafka to ingest billions of telemetry events, ensuring durable, decoupled data pipelines.
- Stream Processing: Apache Flink for real-time log parsing, rolling aggregations, and anomaly detection before storage.
- Backend Languages: Java for building heavy stream-processing applications, supplemented by Go and Python for operators and tooling.
- Ad-Hoc OLAP Analytics: Apache Druid to power sub-second, interactive dashboard queries over massive historical datasets.
- Log & Trace Storage: ClickHouse for fast columnar event storage, natively tiered to AWS S3 / GCP Cloud Storage for cost-effective cold storage.
- Time-Series Metrics: VictoriaMetrics, M3DB, or Prometheus to ingest and compress millions of high-cardinality metric rollups.
- Visualization & Alerting: Grafana and Apache Superset for single-pane-of-glass UI, paired with Prometheus Alertmanager for incident routing.
You’re Our Person If…
- You have deep experience building software and leading engineering teams.
- You know how to move, store, and work with very large amounts of data.
- You are highly skilled at building ETL data pipelines.
- You have hands-on experience with open-source tools like Kafka, Flink, and Apache Druid.
- You are a kind and helpful mentor to other engineers.
- You are a great "service owner," meaning you care deeply about keeping systems online and running smoothly.
Even Better If…
- You have worked on an Observability stack before (tools that monitor system health and logs).

- You enjoy talking directly to customers to understand and solve their problems.
