About this role

Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.

The Opportunity

Slack's Identity Security team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the identity and access controls that protect Slack's infrastructure and the agents operating within it. This is a software engineering role: you'll write code, design services, and ship features that secure how humans and AI agents authenticate and access systems at Slack.

Cloud platform experience is essential; prior identity domain experience is a plus but not required — we'll ramp you up on the identity-specific context.

What you will be doing

  • Design and build services: Develop and maintain identity and access management services on AWS and Kubernetes, working alongside senior engineers on system design, implementation, and operational reliability (monitoring, alerting, and SLOs).
  • Extend agentic identity controls: Build and improve the controls that govern how AI agents authenticate, request access, and operate within Slack's systems
  • Build automation: Design and build systems and APIs that remove manual steps from access management and reduce risk across the organization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with other engineers across Identity, Security, and Infrastructure on shared services and APIs.
  • Participate in code and design review: Contribute to a culture of high-quality code and sound system design through regular reviews with the team.
  • Grow with the team: Take on increasing ownership of projects and systems as you build identity domain expertise.

What you should have

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and operating production backend systems.
  • Proficiency in a high-level programming language such as Python or Go.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, including deploying and operating services in a cloud environment.
  • Working knowledge of distributed systems concepts (APIs, service architecture, data stores).
  • Solid understanding of security fundamentals and secure software development practices.
  • Strong verbal communication skills — able to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to teammates.
  • Strong written communication skills: you can write durable and clear documentation for a variety of readers, including engineering teammates, technical reviewers, and users
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

  • Interest in or exposure to authentication, authorization, identity lifecycle management, or access governance is a plus — not required.
  • Previous experience with deploying and managing workloads in Kubernetes

What's more important to us than a number is the skills you've developed, regardless of the length of time it took to get where you are. Have fewer years but feel you meet the requirements above? We look forward to hearing from you.
