Engineering Onboarding Program Manager
About this role
Employer-provided description, formatted for easier reading.
Summary
Do you have a natural inclination toward logistics and planning? Do you notice grammatical errors in text or when text elements are misaligned? Do you thrive at balancing multiple tasks?
Your main focus will be supporting the Engineering Onboarding Program at Slack: a supportive and inclusive educational process that makes new hires feel welcome and safe while providing them the basic understanding of systems and processes to be successful. As a representative of this program, you'll need people skills to coordinate instructors and deal with issues from instructors and onboarding attendees.
Slack PDE Engineering Onboarding gets every new engineer, intern, and acquired team productive and connected in their first weeks. This role is the operational owner of that program: you run the weekly cadence, facilitate live sessions, and troubleshoot issues.
You'll partner closely with the Engineering Learning Program Manager, who owns curriculum, strategy, and V2MOM design, while you own execution, delivery, and the day-to-day relationships that make onboarding work.
What you will be doing
Scheduling
- Manage scheduling of approximately 40 technical training sessions per month, fielding questions and issues directly from engineers and managers.
- Manage lists of session leaders for each session, escalating scheduling problems as needed.
- Attend occasional sessions for live support that requires typing or note-taking.
- Manage spreadsheets with new hire information, combining data from multiple HR systems.
Asset librarian
- Curate and create training materials for engineers, including simple diagrams based on hand-drawn sketches, using the company slide template and graphics.
- Create, correct, and copy-edit written materials generated by the manager, including hand-written notes and automated transcription.
- Craft internal announcements for onboarding communications.
How we'll work together
- You'll operate with significant autonomy at the execution level, in close partnership with the Engineering Learning Program Manager on strategy and design
- Real-time collaboration during Pacific Time working hours, primarily via Slack
- You'll be the person stakeholders and new hires rely on directly — people skills and calm-under-pressure troubleshooting matter as much as technical skill
Skills needed
- Scheduling and logistics management across Google Calendar, Slack, and spreadsheets with large, multi-source datasets
- Comfort navigating identity/access systems (Okta, GitHub, Workday, or similar) and escalating cross-org issues to resolution
- Strong written communication — creating and editing training materials, announcements, and process documentation
- Experience facilitating live technical or training sessions
