The Software Architect for the SPY‑6 Naval Radar Product Line serves as the primary technical authority for all software architecture and software‑enabled capabilities across SPY‑6 Family of Radars (FoR). This role defines and drives the long‑term software vision, ensuring scalability, technical integrity, and interoperability across multiple configurations.
It requires maintaining strong relationships with Navy stakeholders, internal engineering teams, and major industry partners. The architect ensures cohesive architectural direction that aligns with strategic program objectives.
This position demands deep technical expertise and strategic thinking to guide complex, mission‑critical software across multivariant radar platforms. The architect provides enterprise‑level leadership, shaping architectural decisions that influence multiple programs and subcontractors. They lead cross‑organizational technical integration efforts to ensure product‑line consistency and long‑term sustainability.
The role requires balancing modernization priorities with operational reliability and performance expectations.
The Software Architect is responsible for resolving the most complex technical challenges impacting system performance, schedule, or deployment. They drive multi‑program architecture strategies that support both current fleet operations and future mission needs. The architect ensures software meets stringent mission‑critical performance and reliability requirements for the U.
S. Navy. Through technical authority and collaboration, they maintain the product line’s architectural coherence while advancing software modernization across the radar franchise.
This position is onsite in Marlborough, MA.
What You Will Do
- Lead the software architecture vision and long‑term roadmap for the SPY‑6 FoR’s, ensuring scalable, secure, and interoperable solutions across all configurations.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple programs and subcontractors, guiding architectural decisions and driving modernization initiatives such as modular open‑system approaches, DevSecOps, and digital engineering.
- Collaborate closely with Systems, Hardware, and Navy stakeholders to define capabilities, ensure end‑to‑end system coherence, and support high‑visibility technical reviews.
- Identify and mitigate critical technical risks, direct subcontractor technical approaches, and maintain architectural consistency across radar variants and shared software components.
- Support new business pursuits through technical baselines and proposal contributions while mentoring senior engineers and championing modern engineering practices.
- Establish and enforce architectural standards, interface definitions, and design patterns to ensure software quality, maintainability, and long‑term product‑line integrity.
- Drive cross‑baseline alignment across SPY‑6 FoR variants to prevent divergent implementations and maintain product‑line coherence.
- Lead the adoption of model‑based architecture and digital engineering tools to improve lifecycle traceability and system integration.
Qualifications
You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- Experience in real time, distributed, or mission critical software systems.
- Experience leading complex architectures across multi-variant product lines.
- Experience shaping technical direction across large organizations, external partners, and customer communities.
- Experience in C++, Linux-based systems, high-performance computing, and modern software engineering practices.
- Experience leading major technical reviews and conducting independent architecture assessments.
- Experience driving software modernization initiatives (DevSecOps, modular open‑system architectures, digital engineering, containerization, microservices).
- Experience with model‑based architectural methods (SysML/UML), digital thread/digital twin concepts, and architecture modeling tools supporting lifecycle continuity.
- Experience in Radar domain.
- Experience in Cyber, including ability to work with Cyber SMEs to incorporate Cyber into the system and software architecture.
- Experience with software safety standards and approaches and Software Assurance techniques.
- Active and transferrable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance after start.

- Ability to ensure architectural coherence and prevent divergence across multiple baselines and organizational boundaries
- Strong background in distributed middleware, high‑bandwidth sensor systems, or data‑intensive, high‑performance computing environments
- Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD automation, automated test infrastructure, and secure software development practices
- Ability to balance long‑term architectural strategy with near‑term program priorities and evolving customer mission needs
- Familiarity with Cloud Native to include Container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience sizing software and Computing Platforms
- Basic knowledge of Ethernet networks and ability to communicate real-time and/or near real-time over such networks
- Knowledge of fault tolerance and redundant architecture
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to senior leadership and customers
