What You Will Do

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Collins Aerospace Optronics, you will have the opportunity to work with Mechanical, Optical, Systems and Electrical Engineers on the design, analysis, development, and testing of complex optical and visual display systems. At Collins Aerospace Optronics, we develop and build unique optical systems for space, simulator, airborne and body-worn environments.

• Design, analysis and testing of precision optical assembles and visual display systems.
• Design and development of custom tooling and fixtures.
• Support product prototype development
• Prepare technical documentation including CAD models, drawings, and procedures
• Support trade studies and contribute to continuous process improvement activities

What You Will Learn

• With an emphasis on opto-mechanical design, you will broaden your CAD skills while gaining experience in design, analysis and geometric tolerancing.

Qualifications

You Must Have

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
• Experience with computer aided design (CAD) tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, and/or NX for part and assembly modeling

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications

We Prefer

• Experience with mechanical design fundamentals, engineering principles and GD&T concepts.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Outlook)
• Experience working as part of a team to solve technical problems
• Exposure to basic FEA methods for evaluating stress, deformation, or thermal performance under guidance.
• Experience with engineering laboratory practices, including prototyping, mechanical testing, and use of standard measurement instruments.

• Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
