About the Team

Working in an Agile environment, the team designs and delivers embedded software across a broad technology landscape, including:

  • Embedded device applications
  • Real-time control systems
  • Drivers and device interfaces
  • User interfaces
  • Wireless and cellular communications
  • CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks

The Opportunity

As a Student Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and verification of embedded software for innovative medical devices. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to solve complex technical challenges while delivering high-quality, reliable software that directly impacts patient outcomes worldwide.

This role is ideal for an early career software engineer who enjoys working with embedded systems, values software quality, and wants to gain technical experience in a highly regulated and purpose-driven industry.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software applications
  • Implement automated and manual verification activities to ensure software meets functional and performance requirements
  • Participate in software architecture, design reviews, and technical discussions
  • Document software designs, implementation decisions, and test outcomes
  • Contribute to the delivery of quality software within project timelines
  • Troubleshoot, analyse, and resolve software defects and customer-reported issues
  • Collaborate effectively with software, hardware, systems, and quality engineering teams

What You'll Bring

Technical Skills

  • Experience in C++ and/or Python for application and test software development
  • Experience working within Agile development environments
  • Familiarity with source control and collaboration tools such as GitHub, Bitbucket, Jira, and Confluence
  • Strong software design, code review, debugging, and testing skills
  • Ability to identify technical gaps, evaluate options, and collaborate on solutions
  • Commitment to developing reliable, maintainable, and high-quality software

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and complex systems

Required Qualifications

  • Currently undertaking a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Must be in final or penultimate year of study.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Embedded C/C++ and object-oriented programming
  • Exposure to developing software for embedded or real-time systems
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and automated testing methodologies
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitHub workflow actions
  • Experience using AI tools responsibly and effectively with a focus on quality
