QA Software Engineer (Remote)

Building the Quality Standard for Veterinary Care Infrastructure

Nest Veterinary is on track to 5X this year. We’re the category leader in care plan infrastructure for veterinary practices, and our continued growth depends on building an exceptional team.

As our first dedicated Quality hire, you’ll play an important role in defining how quality works at Nest — building the test infrastructure, AI-assisted workflows, and reliability standards that let us ship fast and with confidence as we scale. If you love automation-first testing, AI-assisted workflows, and owning quality end-to-end across a full stack, this could be a great fit for you.

About Nest Veterinary

Our mission is simple: make pet care accessible to every pet parent. We provide fully managed, tech-enabled care plan solutions that help veterinary practices increase compliance, drive revenue, and deliver better preventive care without the administrative burden.

We’re transforming an industry with design-forward products, thoughtful technology, and a team that cares deeply about the work we’re building together.

What You'll Own

  • Build Test Coverage Across the Stack Architect and build a robust test suite from the ground up for our Flutter applications (web + desktop) and our FastAPI/gRPC backend services.
  • Build contract and integration tests for critical APIs, including payment processing, PIMS integrations, and internal services.
  • Pioneer AI-Assisted QA Use LLMs to generate test cases from PRs, specs, and code diffs, then curate and maintain the output.
  • Use AI for exploratory testing — feeding app state, API responses, and UI structures into models to surface edge cases and inconsistencies humans would miss.
  • Build and maintain prompt libraries and workflows for repeatable AI-assisted QA tasks.

Own Production Reliability

Own observability from a quality and reliability lens: error budgets, alerting thresholds, anomaly detection, and resilience testing. Instrument visual regression testing for our admin and hospital-facing UIs.

Build Quality Infrastructure & Process

Develop and maintain test data management strategies and reusable test utilities. Establish defect reporting and triage workflows, and quality metrics/reporting, so the rest of engineering has a clear view of coverage and release readiness.

Partner Across the Org

Collaborate with developers, product, and customer support to identify quality risks early, with a customer-first mindset toward the end-to-end experience. Work with developers to improve test patterns across the codebase, with a bias toward generated-and-reviewed over hand-written-from-scratch. Continuously evaluate new AI testing tools and integrate them where they create real leverage.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years in a QA, SDET, or test automation role — automation-first, not manual-first
  • Active, demonstrated use of AI/LLM tools in your testing and reliability workflow (Claude, Copilot, Codex, or similar) — we will ask you about this in detail
  • Strong proficiency in Dart and Flutter testing (unit, widget, golden, and integration tests)
  • Experience testing Flutter Web (Playwright or similar) and/or Flutter Desktop applications strongly preferred
  • Comfort writing Python tests for FastAPI and gRPC services (pytest experience a big plus)
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar)
  • Comfort working across the stack — Flutter frontends, Python/gRPC backends, and third-party integrations
  • Experience with contract testing or API testing frameworks
  • Familiarity with production observability tools (Sentry, Datadog, or similar) and reliability concepts like SLOs and error budgets
  • Strong product intuition — able to identify the 10% of paths that carry 90% of the risk
  • Self-directed and comfortable building a function from zero, not inheriting one

Why Nest

  • 5X growth trajectory — your work will directly contribute to how Nest grows and scales
  • High-impact role — you’ll have meaningful ownership and the opportunity to make a visible impact across the business
  • Mission that matters — help more pets get access to the preventive care they need
  • Ground-floor opportunity — help define what great quality and reliability engineering looks like as Nest continues to grow
  • Teammates who show up — work alongside a kind, motivated, and collaborative team

Nest is an equal-opportunity employer. You are welcome at Nest for who you are, no matter where you come from or what you look like. Our platform is for everyone, and so is our workplace.

Bring us your personal experience, your perspectives, and your background. It's in our differences that we will find the power to keep revolutionizing veterinary health care and help pets live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
