As a Software Engineer II , you’ll work alongside world‑class scientists and engineers to design, build, and scale the platforms that power Copilot. This role offers hands-on impact across the full lifecycle—from foundational infrastructure to user-facing capabilities—on one of Microsoft’s highest‑visibility AI products.

- Building the core orchestration and runtime systems for Microsoft 365 Copilot
- Developing advanced AI capabilities, such as artifact generation and code harnesses
- Delivering state-of-the-art models and their capabilities to our customers
- Enabling multimodal, real-time, and agentic interactions
- Pioneering AI-driven computer and tool use at enterprise scale

The Microsoft Turing team is a unique blend of engineering and research excellence, pushing the limits of large-scale deep learning on Microsoft’s world-class distributed training infrastructure. Software engineers and applied scientists partner closely to turn cutting-edge research into production-ready systems used across the company.
This position is based at the Redmond campus with 3 days per week work in the office and 2 days per week work from home. Domestic relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities
- Work closely with applied scientists and engineers on designing and building both backend platform capabilities and core Copilot scenarios aimed at delighting our customers.
- Design and deliver scalable, high-performance features that power next-generation AI experiences.
- Define architecture, implementation plans, ensure robustness and solid test coverage, and improve processes to contribute to our best practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
- These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ years industry experience with one or more of the following: Artificial Intelligence, Distributed Systems, Information Retrieval and/or Data Mining.
- Ability and effectiveness working end-to-end in a technical problem domain (plan, design, execution, continuous release and service operation)
- Experience in software engineering fundamentals, including coding, problem solving and data analysis skills.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U. S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
