We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our team! This is an exciting time to join our group and work on something highly strategic to Microsoft. Microsoft Dataverse is the platform to securely store an enormous amount of data in a cost-efficient, scalable, and easily manageable way.

This team builds a suite of microservices to get near real-time insights over your data. You will be part of a team of engineers who thrive on solving complex problems at scale while doing it with impeccable quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient cloud services and enterprise data platforms powering mission‑critical Dataverse Runtime workflows.
  • Develop features and enhancements for Dataverse Runtime services with strong reliability, performance, compliance, and accessibility practices.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and cross‑functional partners to influence technical direction and deliver end‑to‑end solutions across services and data pipelines.
  • Build automation for deployment, monitoring, issue detection, diagnosis, and self‑healing to reduce operational overhead and improve live‑site health.
  • Identify and resolve recurring issues or trends; drive resiliency improvements through better observability, diagnostics, and recovery strategies.
  • Participate in live‑site operations, including alert tuning, production fixes, and preventive engineering to protect customer experience.
  • Engage in code reviews, share knowledge, and model best practices; continually learn and refine engineering processes to meet evolving enterprise needs.
  • Contribute to transforming Microsoft Dataverse to enable agentic AI experiences—building runtime capabilities, data contracts, and service patterns that support autonomous workflows, guardrails, and safe orchestration.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with Azure services, microservices architecture, and CI/CD pipelines; strong understanding of security, compliance, and accessibility standards.
  • Experience in agentic AI technologies and workflows, including building systems that enable autonomous decision-making, orchestration, and safe execution of AI-driven processes within enterprise environments.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation, data processing, or integration with cloud services and AI workflows.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U. S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year.

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
