Meta is seeking an experienced leader to join our Global Security – Systems and Technology (GSST) team. GSST manages and advances the state of physical security technology and building systems through strategy, design, and innovation.
The Core Technology leader will drive impact across Meta's global offices, retail, data centers, and non-traditional site portfolio through technical design, scalable processes, tool development, and business acumen that together enable an efficient and durable technology stack.
The ideal candidate brings deep command of technology design and uses it to guide and influence scalable solutions — both technology and non-technology — across Meta's physical environment. This role partners with cross-functional teams company-wide to ensure Global Security standards and objectives are embedded into the processes that create predictability for Global Security design and operations.
Global Security Core Technology Director Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end strategy, design, and operation of Core Systems, including access control, security cameras, card readers, and video analytics platforms.
- Lead the architecture of server and cloud environments purpose-built for physical security workloads.
- Drive integrations and automations that connect physical security systems into a cohesive, intelligent technology stack.
- Develop and maintain 3–5 year technology roadmaps aligned to the Global Security long-term vision, with clear linkage to OKRs and key objectives.
- Lead manufacturing vendors on hardware direction, lifecycle management, and roadmap alignment.
- Build stakeholder consensus on the adoption of new products and designs by creating an inclusive forum for collaboration.
- Set expectations for the team's managed software lifecycles — provisioning, deployment, maintenance, firmware upgrades, and end-of-life programs — and measure execution against them.
- Lead and develop teams that execute platform upgrades of highly sensitive, employee-facing systems (e.g., Genetec version upgrades, Linux/Kubernetes migrations) with minimal operational disruption.
- Own system health metrics, SLA performance, and operational dashboards.
- Manage on-call escalation frameworks and SEV response for security systems.
- Assess security and business risk in early planning phases to influence risk avoidance and long-term outcomes.
- Provide administration and oversight of all vendor contracts for Core Systems, engaging key stakeholders to drive alignment.
- Deliver a well-defined, coordinated set of design documents that capture project design intent and all relevant standards and guidelines.
- Educate technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization on design requirements and the reasoning behind them.
- Integrate physical security and core system elements into a single operational delivery plan for Global Security.
- Manage the team to deliver physical security technology projects end to end — on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Lead stakeholder communication and collaboration to ensure timely information transfer across connected teams and partners.
- Own org design: headcount planning, resource advocacy, bench talent development, and workforce optimization strategy.
- Lead a global team of technical program managers, systems engineers, and contingent workers across NORAM, EMEA, and APAC.
- Establish operating cadences — weekly syncs, bi-weekly team meetings, monthly leadership updates, and quarterly business reviews — that keep the team connected to and positively impacting partners.
- Drive performance and build culture through clear goal-setting, check-in reviews, and ongoing structured feedback focused on growth.
Minimum Qualifications
- 12+ years of progressive experience in physical security systems, security technology, or related infrastructure engineering, including 5+ years leading technical teams
- Deep expertise across physical security platforms: access control systems, video management systems (VMS), video analytics, and reader/controller hardware
- Demonstrated experience designing and managing server and/or cloud-hosted environments for security or IoT workloads
- Proven ability to build and lead teams of senior subject matter experts across integrations, automations, and data architecture
- Experience with manufacturing vendor partnerships and hardware lifecycle management
- Demonstrated budget ownership, annual forecasting, and financial accountability
- Experience developing and communicating long-term technology strategy to executive stakeholders and cross-functional partners
- Experience preparing annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and monthly reporting across multiple projects or programs
- Knowledge of physical security principles, including commonly used concepts, strategies, practices, and procedures
- Experience communicating technical detail to all organizational levels, including non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Physical Security, or a related field
- Familiarity with modern data engineering practices: data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, data lakes, and governance frameworks
- Experience in hyperscale technology companies or similarly complex operating environments
- Knowledge of industry standards and compliance frameworks relevant to physical security (e.g., ONVIF, OSDP, UL 294)
- Physical security certification (PSP, CPP, CPTED, or similar)
