Reality Labs (RL) is driving the industry forward through virtual and augmented reality products. The Director of the XR TPM team will lead the TPM organization driving CV/ML/AI development for next-generation AR/VR devices, as well as the software platform that powers them. These are critical building blocks for our next-generation compute platform, spanning core algorithms and platform development across AR and VR.

The XR TPM team is looking for an effective communicator and collaborator who can drive awareness and cross-functional buy-in across RL.

The ideal candidate brings a proven program management background, with experience leading large-scale programs across multiple software teams with cross-functional dependencies to hardware, as well as experience building and growing a TPM organization. You have a well-rounded technical background, including consumer software development and/or scalable ML workflows.

You navigate ambiguity by creating structure, prioritizing competing demands by impact, and driving clarity for teams — balancing high-level strategy and team leadership with hands-on execution to get the job done.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of people within an organization - hiring, developing, and implementing organizational structures, delivering performance reviews, providing continual feedback, coaching, and career growth for direct reports
  • Scale the organization to support multiple fast-paced product categories
  • Articulate the technology, requirements, goals, and milestones of your team
  • Work with engineering and product management leadership to define and revise the long-term strategy for the organization
  • Work with the team to develop end-to-end program plans, influence teams to deliver against them, and keep the organization and leadership informed on progress. Perform risk management and change management on the programs
  • Drive internal process improvements across multiple teams and functions
  • Work with teams to set milestones, communicate program statuses, and identify/address potential setbacks
  • Work with engineering to ensure that what we build has the right balance of cost vs. benefit, and focuses on addressing the highest priority partner team and customer needs
  • Serve as an evangelist for the team and its mission, both internally and externally

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 15+ years of experience in technical program management, software engineering, hardware engineering or systems engineering, with demonstrated progression into organizational leadership
  • 8+ years of experience managing people managers and leading organizations of technical program managers or engineers across multiple concurrent, large-scale programs
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team
  • Experience building and leading a technical program management organization through design, delivery, and commercialization of consumer electronics devices
  • Experience in growing organizations and developing team practices and processes
  • Knowledge of software development processes and best practices for both traditional and machine-learned systems Experience working in programs related to computer vision and machine learning technologies
  • Experience in scaling platforms and people for large-scale growth
  • Experience in shipping AOSP and/or development of a custom operating system
  • Experience shipping consumer software and/or developer APIs
